Job Summary

The Associate Vice President, Advancement Services (AVP) provides leadership and direction for the Memorial Hermann Foundation advancement services function that support the Foundation's fundraising initiatives. The AVP is responsible for donor information systems, data base management, prospect research, gift processing, reporting and acknowledgement, financial reporting and fund management for the 300 plus designed funds, including endowment funds, held at the Memorial Hermann Foundation. The AVP ensures that the planning and executive of data and analytics supports the Foundation to increase philanthrophic support. The AVP provides leadership, supervision and coaching to a growing team with six to ten staff.

The AVP works closely with fundraising staff to support an array of fundraising activities including annual campaign, major gifts, special event fundraising capital and endowement campaigns and planned giving. Additionally, the AVP works with stewardship reports as needed. The AVP works as a key member of the management team and represents the Foundation as needed with other business units including working closely with the System Finance and Accounting teams on financial reporting, audits and projects as required that relate to the Foundation.Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Licenses/Certifications: None.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

* A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in advancement services, including direct experience with research, data management, and/or prospect qualifying and identification in fast paced environment. Prior success in leading information technology to support the execution of business strategies. Experience in the healthcare sector is a strong plus.

* Demonstrated experience managing development/advancement services.

* Deep knowledge and experience with database systems and management. Expert-level knowledge of Raiser's Edge is a strong plus.

* Demonstrated ability to improve organizational effectiveness and results by providing strategic positioning, direction and leadership for operational and infrastructure areas.

* Understands use of web based technologies to gather data and collect donations.

* Proven knowledge of gift processing, IRS regulations, gift acceptance policy, practice and documentation standards, use of foundation accounting systems to handle gifts.

* Knowledge of information security protocols, system security, backup and disaster recovery systems and procedures.

* Process and systems-oriented with strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.

* Proven project management skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

* Proven statistical and data analysis skills to sample and test existing databases, determine error rates, establish minimum quality standards and effectively present results to affected parties. In depth understanding of data acquisition methods, techniques, sources to continually upgrade data quality.

* Demonstrated experience in management and delivery of exceptional quality customer service.

* Innovative and inspiring leadership style with experience recruiting, developing, and managing an advancement services team with varying levels of experience.

* Ability to lead team members across functions.

* Service-oriented team player with a collaborative and engaging work style.

* Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

* Excellent organizational skills with the ability to think ahead and to manage multiple projects effectively.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Principal Accountabilities:

* Oversees advancement services functions including implementing a multi-year plan for Advancement Services to support the Foundation. Effectively manages the budget for the function to ensure a successful plan implementation.

* Conducts regular meetings with foundation management in order to anticipate future business needs, expectations and requirements.

* Monitors the environment for new external regulations and laws that impact the operational and infrastructure areas supported by Advancement Services.

* Develops the policies and procedures for Advancement Services with input of management team and the CEO.

* Manages projects within Advancement Services as well as within the Foundation.

* Recruits, trains, and manages the advancement services team, including those responsible for data entry and management, prospect research and identification, and funds transfers.

* Develops and manages all reporting as required by executive leadership to provide benchmarking for Foundation goals.

* Manages all aspects of prospect identification, including researching and qualifying new and existing donors and assigning them to portfolios.

* Oversees all data entry, gift processing, and acknowledgements.

* Ensures that high data quality is achieved and maintained.

* Actively cultivates knowledge of the nonprofit context (especially in the Texas Medical Center and Houston nonprofit sub-sectors) and advancement services best practices.

* Effectively manages the Advancement Services budget and Foundation budget to ensure that the expenses do not exceed the budget. Routinely monitors the budget and makes adjustments.

* Collaborates with Foundation leadership to develop and launch direct mail and grateful patient donor acquisition strategies and programs. Develop and manage data collection, analysis, and reporting structure to support these programs.

* Collaborates on the development of strategies for campaigns and other fundraising initiatives.

* Participates in and supports the fundraising initiatives of the Foundation, including special events and donor engagement activities.

* Maintains professional growth and technical knowledge by meeting requirements with continuing education, reviewing professional publications and benchmarking with others.

* Supports department-based goals that contribute to the success of the organization.

* Other duties as assigned.
