Posting Summary

Performs fiscal functions such as accounting, grant accounting, and budgeting. Monitors, verifies, and develops reports on expenditures of budgeted funds and prepares financial statements reflecting the forecasted status of programs and activities and their financial impact on the unit or units as a whole. Provides independent analysis of financial data and prepares financial documents and reports for internal and external purposes consistent with a broad understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the business unit, and the tasks and responsibilities of the Business Specialist with respect to achieving business unit goals. Responsibilities include but are not limited to purchasing approvals, payroll charging instructions or approvals, journal entries or journal approvals, etc. Works under general supervision, within established work parameters, with few direct instructions. Carries out routine and non-routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by supervisor. Performs professional work requiring knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices ( GAAP ), and a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of accounting. Coordinates some administrative functions for the unit, which may include personnel, space and facilities assignment and maintenance, purchasing, academic support, and policy administration. This position will specialize with a concentration in sponsored projects in an effort to support campus units as assigned.

Uniform accounting and reporting objectives and standards for areas reporting to the unit
Assistance in responding to recommendations of internal and external audits and other reviews

The department will be recruiting for two positions.

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a Bachelors degree preferably in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices ( GAAP ).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Also requires a minimum of two years relevant experience in a University financial/accounting function. Good interpersonal, communication skills and computer literacy to include proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access and Outlook). Must be skilled in understanding database structure and have the ability to manipulate data imports and exports for financial reporting and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree preferred. Experience working in a higher education environment strongly preferred. An in-depth understanding of the current Rutgers University Systems: Oracle PeopleSoft and Discoverer preferred. Strong preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of Responsibility Center Management, Tableau, Oracle ERP Cloud, and Oracle Hyperion Planning software. Special consideration will be given to candidates representing advanced command of VBA in excel (macros).

Equipment Utilized

Specialized equipment for the incumbent will be in the shape of the software identified above.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Prolonged computer utilization and long periods in sedentary positioning.
