Job Description

Experienced Assistant Service Manager (automotive) needed!

Purpose:

The Assistant Service Manager (ASM) is responsible for communicating the service necessary on the vehicles to the technicians. The ASM meets with the customers to initiate automotive services and repairs by ascertaining performance problems and services requested; verifying warranty and service contract coverage; developing estimates; writing repair orders; maintaining customer rapport and records. It is the ASMs responsibility to capture the customer concerns with their vehicle and relay this information to the appropriate outlets.

Responsibilities:

  • Fosters and maintains excellent relations between customers and service department.
  • Scheduling service appointments according to scheduling policies.
  • Greets all incoming customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ascertain automotive problems and services by listening to customer's description of symptoms; clarifying description of problems; conducting inspections; taking test drives; checking vehicle maintenance records; examining service schedules.
  • Verifies warranty and service contract coverage by examining records and papers; explaining provisions and exclusions.
  • Develop estimates by costing materials, supplies, and labor; calculating customer's payment, including deductibles.
  • Prepare repair orders (RO) by describing symptoms, problems, and causes discovered, as well as repairs and services required; obtaining approval signatures; entering RO into service database system.
  • Verify all possible repair orders are processes on daily basis.
  • Maintain customer rapport by explaining estimates and expected return of vehicle; obtaining customer's approval of estimates; obtaining and providing contact telephone numbers; answering questions and concerns; arranging towing and temporary transportation.
  • Maintain automotive records by recording problems and corrective actions planned.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading manufacturers' publications.
  • Enhance organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience required working in an automotive dealership in a Service Advisor, Asst. Service Manager, or other service-related role.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills to resolve issues in a professional and tactful manner over the phone and in person
  • Ability to accept additional tasks, duties and/or direction from management
  • Excellent customer service skills and a passion to serve
  • Presentable (the service writer is the face of our company.)
  • Sales Experience
  • Computer Savvy
  • Problem Solver
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance
