The Assistant Director of Development (aDOD) will contribute to this vision by participating in key processes and programs that sustain an office-wide focus on collaboration, efficiencies and metrics-based outcomes. Through individual contribution, the aDOD will be a part of creating our evolution into a perpetually campaign-ready, donor-centered program to support City of Hope's mission. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Transformative Philanthropy and Campaign Stratagies, assist in developing, planning and implementing new programs, independently or as part of a larger program. The Assistant Director of Development, Campaign Strategies (aDOD), will contribute to this vision by participating in a commitment to key processes and programs that sustain an office-wide focus on collaboration, efficiencies and metrics-based outcomes. By providing strong individual contribution, the aDOD will be a part of creating our evolution into a perpetually campaign-ready, donor-centered, leading industry program to support City of Hope's mission. The incumbent will work in partnership with Office of Philanthropy colleagues to support the creation and implementation of critical campaign strategies, programs and initiatives. Additionally, the aDOD will have demonstrated success in coordinating high level projects that support campaign readiness. The aDOD will have demonstrated experience in supporting and implementing key initiatives with some direction, interacting effectively with colleagues, physicians/faculty, donors and prospects, and demonstrate an understanding of the spectrum of campaign readiness activity including report support, meeting logistics, presentation materials timeline creation and implementation with high attention to detail. The incumbent will have strong written and oral communications skills, exhibited through the development of successful communications. Experience building internal (staff, physicians, administrators) relationships is required.

These experiences will have been secured with three or more years of consecutive experience in a non-profit environment, with experience in a complex health care environment preferred.

Essential Functions

Contributes to program reaching its annual performance goals through individual performance and modeling commitment to our vision. Includes:

* Responsible for planning, managing and coordinating designated programs.

* Manage a wide range of fundraising initiatives for senior philanthropic leaders working with COH faculty partners.

* Work to ensure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule

* Work independently to oversee the development, execution and budgeting of selected projects.

* Work collaboratively with colleagues across campus to coordinate high level meetings.

* Manage ad hock campaign-related projects and assignments.

* Participate in program-related program/strategy development as directed.

* Develop presentation materials for senior-level meetings in coordination with AVP, Transformative Philanthropy and Campaign Strategies and affiliated staff.

* Prepare monthly activity reports and special campaign related progress reports.

* Participate with AVP and VP, Philanthropy and Campaign Strategies with the Office of Facilities to maintain detailed records on capital projects and gift opportunities. Partner with Donor Relations and Communications to ensure that recognition opportunities are tracked between two departments.

* Participate in professional development opportunities to expand and enhance knowledge of cancer, diabetes, translational medicine and clinical trials.

* Identify, organize and direct the efforts of philanthropic volunteers as needed and assigned.

Serve as a role model for the Office of Philanthropy. Includes:

* Act as spokesperson for City of Hope activities as requested.

* Participate in meetings, committee meetings, task forces, and other special projects.

* Maintains a positive image when dealing with executive staff, donors, prospects, fundraisers and other City of Hope employees.

* Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Position Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree. Experience may substitute.

* 3 plus years related experience, preferably in a healthcare/philanthropy environment. Relevant education or related experience in biomedical sciences or health care may be substituted for part of this requirement. Experience in a complex medical or academic development setting encouraged.

* Strong understanding of the issues, nuances and needs of research, teaching and clinical operations in a complex health sciences research and/or university environment preferred.
