**Job Description**

?The New York Times Opinion section is seeking an Associate Operations Manager to help support our growing department. The Associate will work on basic operations functions — managing vacation schedules, checking and approving expenses, assisting with travel arrangements, paying freelancers and vendors, data entry, event planning and execution, purchasing supplies and other expenditures, and performing other administrative duties.

To be successful, you should be highly organized and detail-oriented. You will need to establish and maintain collaborative, effective relationships with internal partners and external vendors.

The Associate Operations Manager will work largely at the direction of the Senior Manager and Senior Contract Manager in Opinion. This role is based at The Times’s New York City headquarters.


+ Manage travel arrangements and booking corporate apartments for visiting employees

+ Collaborate on planning events for employees, including coordinating with venues and ordering food and drinks

+ Review and approve expense reports for the department

+ Maintain freelance databases including inputting contracts and onboarding new vendors

+ Process invoices and payments for completed freelance work

+ Assist in obtaining required contracts for guest essays and communicating rights to the syndication team

+ Handle administrative duties like managing incoming mail

+ Cover responsibilities of the Senior Manager or Senior Contract Manager when they’re out of the office


+ 3+ years experience working as an office manager, assistant, operations manager or in a related role

+ Highly organized, with keen attention to detail and excellent time management skills

+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

+ Experience analyzing spreadsheets and working on data entry

+ Creative problem solver who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
