This position will offer you the ability to apply and expand your knowledge of underground transmission line engineering, including routing, duct bank configurations, manhole placement and electrical principles to:

+ Design underground transmission lines in the 34kV to 500kV range.

+ Perform analysis of strength requirements and thermal properties of the concrete.

+ Develop CYMCAP models for determination of cable sizing, bonding scheme and cable ampacity.

+ Develop cost estimates and schedules and prepare specifications for the procurement of underground transmission line materials and construction.

+ Specify underground transmission line components.

+ Select riser/termination structure design and placement.

+ Model underground transmission lines in AutoCAD Civil 3D or Microstation V8i to determine clearances to other buried utilities, transition spacing, sweep requirements, duct bank length, manhole placement and develop transmission line plan and profile drawings.

+ Review vendor submittals.

Essential skills and experience:

+ This position requires a Bachelor of Science in Civil (BSCE), a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or another engineering discipline combined with relevant experience. Degree must be from an ABET-accredited engineering program.

+ Knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles including basic statics and strength of materials.

+ A practical understanding of AASHTO standards and guidelines for highway design and construction.

+ Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models.

+ Excellent spatial visualization and an aptitude for interpreting 3-D models.

+ Proficiency with MS Office applications.

+ Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

+ Self-Starter, proactive, able to work independently with minimal direction.

+ Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions and meet deadlines.

+ Attention to detail.

Desirable skills and experience:

+ Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling a plus.

+ Proficiency with Pull-Planner or other cable tensioning software preferred
