The Bioinformatics Scientist (open level, from Postdoctoral Fellow to Research Assistant Professor) will work in a team environment in Andrea Bild's lab studying tumor heterogeneity using whole genome sequencing and single cell sequencing approaches, among others. The project will focus on evolution of tumor resistance to therapy and is supported by our funded NIH Cancer Systems Biology Consortium ( https://csbconsortium.org/ ) program at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center. This distinguished program provides exciting opportunities to engage with top scientists and cutting edge genomic research.
For this position, the scientist will lead efforts to analyze genomic data for detection of tumor subclone population evolution during therapy using WGS (for reference, please read: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29093439 ), as well as subclonal phenotype and pathway activity using single cell sequencing data. S/he will manage the analysis and interpretation of genomics data from patient cohorts in order to understand why cancer progresses with resistant tumor clones that emerge during therapy. Signaling state changes in cancer and tumor associated normal cells during progression to resistance will be studied, as well as cell-cell interactions important in tumor growth. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development data workflow processes and pipelines. S/he will also have the opportunity to assist in training investigators and new users to use bioinformatics applications and databases.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
+ PhD degree in bioinformatics or equivalent and experience with NGS sequencing data lead research projects.
+ Demonstrated ability to solve biologically-relevant problems requiring novel applications of exploratory data analysis.
+ Analyze data of high complexity by applying sound statistical and commonly accepted bioinformatics methods to -omics data with a collaborative project team.
+ Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
+ Excellence in scripting languages (python, perl) and with R.
+ Knowledge of hardware including server.
