This is a collaborative position between the OHSU Information Technology Group (ITG) and Casey Eye Institute (CEI). The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions. The mission of CEI is to promote the best possible eye health through education, research, clinical leadership, and community service. CEI is a world-recognized academic eye center that is known for developing and utilizing the latest treatments and technologies, and is interested in expanding the application of data reporting & analytics toward improved quality, efficiency, and strategic planning.


As part of the Business Intelligence & Advanced Analytics (BIAA) division of ITG, this position is responsible for:


+ Supporting ophthalmology operational reporting,


+ Gathering requirements and business process knowledge to transform data into analytics solutions


+ Providing data in support of CEI quality and research initiatives, and related project efforts as prioritized by senior leadership of Casey Eye Institute.


These deliverables will primarily include: delivery and ongoing support of monthly and quarterly quality metrics, OPPE metrics, revisions and new development of data feed solutions and reporting instruments in support of CEI research, quality, and operational needs. The incumbent will develop, implement, and maintain a variety of business intelligence solutions for analyzing, reporting, and providing access to healthcare information to clinical data consumers.


This person will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining business intelligence solutions to support CEI’s analytics needs, including:


+ SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence Reports and Universes for department and division monthly and quarterly publications;


+ SQL data extracts using T-SQL stored procedures and SSIS;


+ Views and stored procedures for reporting using Microsoft SQL Server and the Epic Clarity and Caboodle data models;


The position with work closely with Casey Eye Institute leadership, clinical and operational partners, vendors, IT staff, and project managers to document scope and requirements, as well as develop, validate, test, and maintain BI solutions. This work will require leveraging existing OHSU BI assets and standard content when appropriate. New solution development will follow the OHSU software development methodology and adhere to data governance, data security, change management, and report standards. The incumbent will be required to facilitate communication to stakeholders horizontally and vertically through the organizations.

This position is also responsible for detailed technical analysis to assure the availability and accuracy of data contained in the BIAA supported data warehouses or accessed through BIAA supported BI systems. This will include availability for rotation through support required for operational process improvement, software upgrades, and project go lives.


Solution Development, Testing, and Training


Use business requirements to develop BI solutions, including ad hoc operational and analytical reports, dashboards, scheduled reports.


+ Business Objects: BOBJ Universes, Web Intelligence and Crystal Reports.


+ Epic Clarity and Caboodle data models.


+ Epic: Reporting Workbench reports & templates, Radar dashboards, SlicerDicer analyses, Analytic Registries Column Editor, PAF creation, CER rules.


+ Identifies opportunities for leveraging existing reporting assets to meet business requirements


+ Works closely with other OHSU IT staff to meet expectations for design reviews and coding standards.


+ Provides issue resolution during Quality Assurance / User testing.


+ Troubleshoot and analyze data processing failures and data issues using Chart review, Record Viewer, Clarity Data dictionary, and Caboodle Data Dictionary.


+ Work through established processes to resolve system or data problems, and communicate updates and status to affected groups.


+ Recommend changes to data models and metadata models to improve existing structures and code to increase performance, reliability, and efficiency.


+ Provides technical expertise to departmental staff and customers to improve user experience.


+ Facilitate the implementation and migration of the solution objects into production.


+ Validating and testing with the customer as frequently as necessary to get sign-off that the solution meets the requirements.


+ Provide training as necessary to the customer of the new report solution.


Business Analysis


Conduct discovery sessions with end users, front line staff, leadership, analysts, engineers and informaticians to gather and document detailed requirements that inform the design and development of new or modifications to existing BI solutions.


+ Data analysis and profiling of source data to identify source tables, data definitions and business rules.


+ Solution design. Taking into consideration options of tools and report structure/format that best meet the customer requirements, department direction, and policy.


+ Leveraging Epic Userweb, Epic hosted foundation, and TS support to leverage Epic foundation and Epic integrated solutions when possible.


Production Support and Continuous Improvement


Respond to requests from customers to fix issues or apply enhancements to existing production reports.


+ Communication with the customer to get clarification on support needs.


+ Perform high level data analysis and initial sizing of the work to be done.


+ Facilitate and coordinate the solution with other groups, e.g. Workflow, BIAA and other IT groups, as needed.


+ Design, develop and test the solution.


+ Work with the Customer to validate the solution and close the Ticket.


+ Coordinate the migration of the changed report objects.


+ Continually work to improve existing processes and daily work.


+ Identify improvement opportunities for department or system


+ Facilitate the prioritization of improvement opportunities with organizational leadership


Project Management, Tool Leadership, and Mentorship


Serve as clinical BI content experts for cross-department projects such as Upgrades or Migration efforts. Mentorship of junior staff on Tools, subject matter and Process.


+ Primary representation for Clinical BI in division level projects; will include impact analysis of Clinical BI stewarded content, the development of a mitigation plan, assignment and/or ownership of project tasks, oversight of project task executions, status reporting to leadership.


+ Leading the creation, maintenance, and improvement of standard work and process documentation. This includes all reference documentation categorized as a responsibility of a BIAA analyst in the BIAA RACI Matrix. This documentation will serve as the knowledgebase for all junior staff.


+ Expert level understanding of BIAA toolset, serving as the go-to technical expert in an ETL or BI application.


+ Mentorship of junior staff for process, clinical subject matter, and department tools


This position is currently 100% telework/remote and may include remote work long-term. Candidate must be able to work from home full-time initially.


Education:


Master’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and four years of work-related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments;


OR


Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and six years of work-related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments;


OR


Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and seven years of work-related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments;


OR


Eight years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments;


OR


Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.


Experience:


+ Four years paid work experience as BI Developer (or equivalent classification).


+ Four years working with relational databases


+ Four years experience with developing semantic layers for data preparation.


+ Experience with facilitating and documenting system requirements sessions.


+ Experience creating technical documentation of reports and data/report models.


+ Experience with utilizing star schema data stores as the basis for report development.


+ Experience planning and managing small projects
