*Job Overview*: This position serves as the supervisor of the business office at Montana State Hospital, including patient accounts, census, and general accounting procedures for the Hospital. Direct Link to MT HB 702 *Essential Duties or Responsibilities:* 1. Accounting 50% * Assists the Senior Manager, Finance in areas of accounting for the hospital including, but not limited to, preparing the budget, by analyzing expenditures, both historical expenditures and future projections; and establishing and implementing office activities, technique, and methods for the hospital to assure, sound, meaningful and practical fiscal reports. * Creates, manages, and prepares a number of standard and ad-hoc reporting related to fiscal performance. * Performs internal audits on hospital inventory and cash accounts. * Acts as the front line supervisor responsible for internal controls, separation of duties, and other policy requirements for Business Office operations 1. Supervision and Workforce Development 20% * Provides support and supervision of Business Office Services to ensure services are delivered to high quality. May plan and implement staff development programs. * Oversees direct reports including, but not limited to, providing performance appraisals, hiring, engaging in corrective action, and authorizing continuing education. * Establishes, assigns, directs, monitors, and balances employee workloads. * Provides insight to scenarios needing consultation. * Ensures dissemination of information through regular staff meetings. 1. Other Duties as Assigned 10% * Assists with tasks and assignments provided by executive leadership. * Participates in senior leadership team activities as directed. * Provides input and feedback to Hospital Administrator / Chief Operations Officer as directed. * Functions as Senior Manager, Finance as assigned / needed. * Performs other duties as directed. *Physical and Environmental Demands:*This position works in a typical office environment but may be required to assist in other areas of the Finance Department including warehouse which may require bending, squatting, stooping, climbing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance. This position works on site of Montana State Hospital and may encounter patients who may be unpredictable and violent. *Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:* (Required for first day of work) * Extensive knowledge of principles and techniques of accounting and fiscal management * Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing. * Ability to establish workable solutions to complex problems * Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply a variety of laws and regulations in a consistent manner * Ability to provide leadership, to supervise and direct work through subordinate employees by establishing and communicating clear plans, goals, and methods of performance * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of individuals. *Supervision* The number of employees supervised is: 6 The position information for each supervised employee is: * Accountant (32251) * Accounting Clerk (32282) * Administrative Assistant (32275) * Accounting Technician (32272) * Purchasing Specialist (32292) * Warehouse Property Supervisor (32665) *Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):* * A combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from college with a bachelors’ degree in accounting or related field. * Three years of experience in a supervisory capacity is required. Candidates will be evaluated to determine if they meet the minimum qualifications listed above and on the extent to which the application materials show the candidate possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with this position.
