+ POSITION SUMMARY
+ Learns to assign disease and procedural codes and abstract information for ambulatory surgery, emergency department and other ambulatory episodes of care, using encoder/grouper, code books and other related hospital systems. Learns to maintain required records and logs. Learns to interact with physicians on coding issues. This position is for a minimum of one semester with a maximum of two semesters. Semesters are defined by Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (WGTC). This position may lead to progression to position of Coder I, Medical Records.
+ KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
+ + High School graduate or equivalent
+ Current Student at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (WGTC) and active HIT Associate Degree candidate.
+ Completion of WGTC’s HIMT 1400 Class
+ Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology
+ Ability to use computers efficiently
+ Good communication skills essential
