UMIAQ Design & Municipal Services, LLC is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska and supports its parent company, Ukpeavik Iupiat Corporation's (UIC) mission to provide social and economic resources to its Iupiat shareholders and their descendants.

UMIAQ Design & Municipal Services, LLC provides traditional Architecture, Engineering and Surveying services, along with Project Management services, to Public and Private clients throughout Alaska and into the lower 48 states.

Support UIC incident free safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for the safe performance of the job, both for personal safety and that of fellow workers.

This includes the proper use of PPE, safety equipment, and adhering to safe work practices.

Take necessary actions to stop or correct unsafe behaviors or conditions and, if appropriate, report them to the site Supervisor.

Become familiar with company policies, pertinent standards, work instructions or safe operating procedures. Maintain good attendance and actively participate with a positive attitude.

Chain Person

The Chain Person will assist on a survey crew by accurately setting points, setting up tripod with tribrach & prism, and measure distances. Shovel snow, drill holes in the ice and keep the vehicles clean, organized, and well stocked with survey supplies.

Essential Functions:

* Accurately setup tripod with tribrach & prism.

* Accurate use of a level rod.

* Ability to measure distances accurately.

* Understand and carry out work instructions.

* Maintain neat, orderly, and well stocked vehicles.

* Efficiently set survey traverse points and level loop turning points.

* Snow shoveling.

* Drill holes in ice using hand held ice auger.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

* Embrace the ConocoPhillips safety culture.

* Basic knowledge of mathematics.

* Effectively communicate with coworkers and others.

* Accurately setup tripod with tribrach & prism

* Accurate use of a level rod.

* Ability to measure distances accurately.

* Understand and carry out work instructions.

* Maintain neat and orderly vehicles and work areas.

* Setting wood lath and hubs.

* Be on time for all morning safety meetings.

* Make all Shared Services flights on time.

Required Experience:

* 1 year experience on a survey crew.

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Ability to ride a snow machine and perform basic maintenance.

* Possess a valid driver's license.

* Ability to pass the UIC driving course.

* Possess a NSTC card (preferred) or be willing to obtain one.

* Ability to pass a ConocoPhillips background check for shotgun training.

* Disposition conducive to living and working with the same people in close quarters for at least two weeks at a time.

RequirementsPhysical Demands:

* Work in extreme conditions (remote/isolated areas, cold temperatures, wind, rain, snow, and insects).

* Work long hours (12 hours a day for at least two weeks straight).

* Able to lift at least 50 pounds.

* Walk long distances over irregular and difficult terrain.

* Shovel snow and chip ice.

Environmental Conditions:

* Live in a work camp environment.

* Arctic weather conditions.

* Outdoor environment.

* Travel from site to site.

* Work closely with others and alone.

* Potential exposure to inclement weather.

* May be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and gases.
