As part of the Solar System and Public Engagement Networks Group, you will work with the Manager, Solar System and Public Engagement Networks to support NASA’s Space Place, Climate Kids, and NOAA’s SciJinks websites and associated social media and newsletters.

Will work with multiple teams of professional communicators, including international teams, using social media, outreach events, podcasts, digital content and on-site visitor centers, to share NASA's achievements and technology advances in space and Earth science.

Tasks include, but not limited to:

+ Manage, edit, organize and implement the SciJinks newsletter.

+ Create monthly reports and analyze social media data to determine impact and strategy.

+ Support strategic planning and use of innovative ideas for shaping and improving public engagement products and social media strategy – specifically YouTube.

+ Researches industry best practices and provides ongoing improvements to public engagement programs and products.

+ Responsible for sharing NASA science/storytelling with youth and teachers using digital communication tools (web, mobile, social media, print, digital and or video) as well as print products to effectively communicate a message that aligns with NASA’s communication priorities.

+ Works closely with Manager for Solar System and Public Engagement Networks and the Space Place team meeting at least once weekly.

+ Communicate regularly with all stakeholders including weekly significant events, monthly reports and annual reviews including gathering metrics and reporting on project milestones, program impacts and makes informed suggestions for improvements.

+ Attends project meetings regularly and reports out on efforts and/or communications news.

Required Qualifications:

+ Must be enrolled at least half-time at typically a local accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s in Strategic Communications, Communications, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or major related to work assignment

+ Must be available to work a 20 -25 hours per week

+ Must be available to work during the Summers

+ Must have at least 1 semester or quarter remaining to complete degree

+ Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0 out of 4.0 or equivalent

+ Recently completed coursework providing an understanding and application of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques in Communications or related.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Excellent writing skills.

+ Experience with or working familiarity with newsletters and communicating with K-12 teachers and/or kids.

+ Experience with education best practices (formal or informal) and/or citizen science programs.

+ Demonstrates experience developing and implementing social media campaigns, specifically YouTube
