Depending on experience, candidates may be considered for the Commissary Pastry Baker position at either Level 1 or Level 2.

Rate of Pay: $19.31 (Level 1) or $20.84 (Level 2) DOE
Schedule: Full-time. Schedule flexibility and the ability to work weekends and holidays is required.

The Commissary Pastry Baker is responsible for creating high quality, delicious pastry in large volumes, all from scratch. This position requires an attention to detail, a desire to continually improve upon one’s baking skills, and the ability to work cooperatively on a team in a production environment. The ideal candidate for this position will be excited to make various cookies, pie dough products, and laminated doughs in a high-volume production team setting with an emphasis on efficiency and accuracy, sense of urgency, and self-motivation.
The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent attention to detail, a high sense of urgency and self-motivation, the desire to continually improve upon their skills as a production baker, and the ability to perform highly physical and repetitive labor. An interest in good food, seasonality, and strengthening local economies is required.
Responsibilities and Duties
+ Understands and can use all equipment and processes utilized in Commissary Pastry, including: the spiral mixer, paddle mixer, sheeter, scaling, benchwork, and expediting/distributing
+ Takes an active role in the quality control of all products
+ Communicates critical information in an effective, professional, and timely manner
+ Works collaboratively with the Commissary and Grand Central Bakery team
+ Basic skills with current technology systems including ChefTec, Outlook, and others
+ Understands seasonality and has knowledge of special specifications
+ Is aware of and can communicate final product goals including production planning
+ Understands the financial goals of the department and the impact of lost product and product shortages
+ Has a working understanding of mixing methods, benchwork, and knife skills
Qualifications and Skills
+ At least 18 years of age
+ Ability to read, write, and speak English required
+ Maintains food handler’s card – new hires are expected to have a valid card by their first date of work
+ Basic math skills (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc.)
+ HS diploma/GED preferred
+ Intermediate computer skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word or comparable programs
+ Prior professional pastry experience or completion of a pastry program required
The Commissary Pastry Baker 2 is expected to stand for 100% of the shift worked. This position walks up to the equivalent of two miles per shift and is expected to carry up to 30 lbs.
Pastry Bakers work in a bakery and are constantly exposed to wheat flour dust and other grain dusts (rye, corn, oat).
