As part of our Conceptual Design team in Palmdale, you will have an opportunity to develop new air vehicle systems and technology solutions as part of Lockheed Martin's Advanced Development Programs, a\.k\.a\. "Skunk Works"\.


We are seeking an experienced Conceptual Design Engineer with expertise in early aircraft design, capable of both independent work and working as a key member a broader design team\. The candidate should be a highly motivated self\-starter capable of learning quickly and thriving in a fast\-paced, dynamic environment\.


The candidate's primary responsibilities will include:


\- Aircraft Conceptual Design, including advanced surfacing and lofting, configuration layout, aircraft sizing and performance analysis\.


\- Developing 3D CAD models of aircraft concepts, including layout and integration of systems \(propulsion, fuel, subsystems, landing gear, structural arrangements, mission systems, etc\.\)


\- Conducting trade studies, sensitivity analysis, performance analysis, and optimization\.


\- Setup and execution of Multi\-Disciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization \(MDAO\) models\.


\- Assist in planning and leading aircraft design studies and projects


The engineer selected for this position must have experience working with the many engineering disciplines involved in the aircraft design process, such as aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, mass properties, stability and control, and mission performance\.


In addition to vehicle configuration development and layout, the individual will work with sizing and analysis tools in the LM Aero Rapid Conceptual Design process, using them to execute conceptual design trade studies and identify optimal solutions\. Experience with analytical tool development, modification, coding and test is preferred\.


Previous experience with advanced aircraft conceptual design/development is required, and an understanding of the integration of survivability technologies, propulsion systems, subsystems, sensors, and payloads is preferred\.


The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be capable of presenting their work to management and customer representatives\.


Must be a US Citizen\. This position is located at a facility that requires special access\. Secret clearance updated within the last 6 years is preferred\.

**Basic Qualifications:**


\- Bachelor's or above degree from an accredited college in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering


\- Experience with product design using CATIA V5 or other 3D CAD software


\- Experience with aircraft conceptual design, layout, sizing and performance analysis tools


\- Experience participating on multi\-disciplinary engineering teams


**Desired Skills:**


\- Familiar with military aircraft design principles and tools


\- Experience with setup and execution of Multi\-Disciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization \(MDAO\) models


\- Familiar with design of low observable aircraft, integration of survivability technologies, propulsion systems, subsystems, sensors, and payloads


\- Excellent technical writing and presentation skills


\- Experience with at least one structured programming language \(ex\. Java or FORTRAN or C\+\+/C\#\)


Must be a US Citizen\. A current Secret clearance updated within the last 6 years is preferred\.
