As Meritize’s Corporate Controller, you will oversee all aspects of the accounting organization, including month-end close procedures, quarterly reviews, tax, compliance, internal controls, and supervise annual audits. You will also be responsible for providing leadership, direction, and management to Meritize’s accounting team.

This position is critical in Meritize’s continued growth – the company provides financing to individuals for non-traditional, skills-based training and dispositions the financial interest in these assets via third party sales and/or wholesale facilities. This model requires a high level of financial and accounting infrastructure and expertise. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and Capital Markets, you will have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

+ Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions.

+ Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.

+ Establish, maintain, and document accounting policies and procedures

+ Establish and implement financial controls governing cash disbursements, credit card use, AR and cash receipts, approval procedures, commissions, legal contracts, etc.

+ Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements.

+ Coordinating activities of external auditors

+ Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process.

+ Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes.

+ Establishing and maintaining financial controls with the accounting department.

+ Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting databases, as needed, and facilitate ongoing improvement.

+ Developing and monitoring business performance metrics.

+ Overseeing regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance.

+ Hiring, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff. Leadership and development of the accounting team.

General Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree and/or MBA in finance, accounting, or other related fields.

+ CPA is required.

+ Ability to come in to the Meritize Onsite office for planning sessions, meetings, among other duties

+ 10+ years of finance and accounting experience – public accounting and SEC experience (preferred but not required).

+ Must have previous experience as a controller or assistant controller, ideally for a private or publicly traded financial services company with responsibility for cost accounting, credit and collections, and general accounting administration

+ Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems, preferably in a job costing environment

+ Outstanding knowledge of US GAAP accounting rules.

+ Deep knowledge of accounting for taxes and audit matters.

+ Experience developing and implementing financial management systems.

Technical Qualifications:

+ MS Office Tools with strong proficiency in MS Excel.

+ Experience with NetSuite preferred.

+ Experience with Python or SQL a plus.
