Database Administrators are responsible for the development and design of database strategies , system monitoring , improving database performance and capacity , and plan, co-ordinate and implement security measures to safeguard the database and data housed within it.
Database Administrators are responsible for the evaluation of database software purchases and supervise the modification of any existing database software to meet the needs of the business.
Create database objects (tables, indexes, etc.)
Write database procedures, functions and triggers
Participate in database migration reviews
Support application programmers in the testing of database applications
Tune database queries
Monitor application related jobs and data replication activities
Database install and configuration
Database patch management and version control
Database access and security administration
Evaluate and test DBMS related software
Establish data availability
Database capacity planning
Refreshing database in test environments
Create and maintain database documentation
Develop and execute database backup and recovery
Perform database maintenance (rebuilding indexes, reorgs, statistics, etc...)
Assist in developing and recommending data archiving solutions
Follow and ensure database source control policies
Responsible for database performance monitoring
Ensures database naming standards
Oversee all database changes
Must maintain high level of technical competence.
Demonstrate good organizational and analytical skills.
Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate good leadership skills.
Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate a commitment to corporate success.
Display professionalism in the course of the workday.
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field; Minimum of 1-4 years of experience in a Database environment.
Database certifications will be a plus.
