We are searching for a Director of Nursing for the new Adult Congenital Heart Program, someone with proven, strong adult cardiac leadership experience. In this comprehensive role, the director will be responsible for the development of the new program. In addition, the director will provide 24-hour accountability for clinical, administrative, and HR activities. Other responsibilities include the recruitment and the building of the team, working with new construction and moving into the new dedicated area for the program. In addition, the director will ensure the delivery of high quality, cost-effective, and developmentally-appropriate patient care in a family-centered environment.

Must have a minimum 5 years recent adult cardiac leadership experience

Responsibilities :


  • Ensure the delivery of safe, high quality, age-appropriate, cost-effective care within a family-centered environment, as measured by variance analysis reports, revenue enhancement/expense reduction, patient satisfaction scores, patient complaints, regulatory compliance, and new programs
  • Mentor other leaders in order to enhance their performance and promote the ongoing development of staff as measured by observation, records of development sessions, and feedback from leaders and staff
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical leadership, direct reports, and appropriate interdepartmental liaisons to ensure the achievement of identified goals
  • Ensure the creation of a work climate that fosters employee participation, satisfaction, and organizational commitment as measured by annual employee survey results, turnover rates, and employee initiatives
  • Identify, provide, and create opportunities for all staffs ongoing professional development
  • Develop and prioritize service-based goals that support the IDS strategic plan
  • Complete timely performance appraisals for direct reports and assure the new staff attends hospital/departmental orientation
  • Report financial performance on a monthly basis, as well as the annual capital and operating budgets as required
  • Submit performance planning documents, ongoing planning materials, action plans, and departmental goals


  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • Masters Degree in Nursing, Business, or a Health Care related field required
  • RN - Licensed Registered Nurse by the Texas State Board of Nursing
  • 5 years nursing experience, including 3 years of management/leadership experience
  • Preferred: CNL - Certified Clinical Nurse Leader by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing
  • Preferred: Completion of certification within 1 year of assuming the role
