The Director of Government Affairs for Southwest Key integrates government affairs strategy, manages SWK’s relationships with Congress, Industry Associations and Trade Groups. The Director of Government Affairs will develop and manage a strategic plan for successfully achieving specific results which are favorable to the interest of the organization and designs plans for government outreach and thought leadership by providing analysis of emerging or existing legislative public policy issues impacting the organization. This position will be responsible for all administrative and operational affairs of SWK’s Washington, DC offices and will report directly to the VP of Government Affairs.
+ Participate in organizational strategic planning activities and work with the VP of Government Affairs to set SWKs short and long-term policy agenda and legislative
+ Support the VP of Government Affairs by assisting in formulating a Government Affairs Strategic Plan, and identifying and developing SWK’ s legislative agenda and priorities ensuring alignment and integration between the EFC Strategic Plan, the Government Affairs Strategic Plan, and the communications strategy.
+ Identify, monitor, and analyze legislation and regulations, and offer recommendations on action
+ Draft legislation and develop strategies for passage on priority organizational advocacy issues
+ Create opportunities for increased visibility with policy makers, including sponsorships, tours, luncheons, providing speakers, newsletters, etc.
+ Monitor and analyze key legislative, judicial, and political developments and trends affecting SWK’ s key issue areas, identify opportunities for engagement and collaboration with key
+ Facilitate communications and meetings with elected officials and their staff when necessary.
+ Evaluates pending legislation and regulations that may impact Southwest Key in close consultation with the VP of Government Affairs to develop recommendations and prepare communications for senior leadership.
+ Works on complex issues where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors and seeks to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
+ Identify, track, and analyze relevant policy proposals, legislation and regulation and assist in the preparation of recommendations and strategy for organizational involvement on key issues; oversee development of related collateral.
+ Gathers intelligence and assists in the preparation of position papers, policy briefings, presentations, and other materials related to government actions.
+ Collaborate with the VP of Government Affairs in working with key stakeholders, including policymakers, coalition partners, researchers, and advocates to identify policy opportunities and develop, refine, and advance SWK’s policy
+ Advises internal stakeholders on the impact of public policy, procedures, issues and matters under negotiation.
+ Build and deepen existing relationships with coalition partners and coordinate efforts with industry-based coalitions and outreach to potential allies on issues of mutual
+ Participate in SWK’s outreach to Capitol Hill and to the Administration to ensure the continuation of strong bipartisan relations with Congressional offices.
+ BA/BS required with a minimum of six (6) years’ experience as a government relations executive, a Congressional staffer, or as a senior public servant in a relevant government agency, department, or business.
+ Strong political skills, including knowledge of political campaigns and fundraising.
+ Acute political sensitivity.

+ Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required by contractual agreement.

Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of workstation and other office equipment. Frequent typing, writing, bending, and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds. Must be able to drive either personal or company vehicle.
