WSP is currently initiating a search for a **Director of Internal Communications** to be based in our **Washington D.C.** office. The following locations will also be considered: New York, NY and Atlanta, GA. Join our Corporate Communications Team and help drive our growing organization as we foster deeper connections with each other and our clients and unite around our shared purpose to create sustainable communities, resilient environments and equitable futures for everyone.
The Director of Internal Communications provides strategic and technical leadership for the planning and execution of WSP’s Internal Communications program to connect employees with WSP’s leaders, support a dynamic and matrixed ecosystem of 13,000 people across the U.S., and nurture their engagement in our uniquely collaborative, inclusive and purpose-driven culture. This person will partner directly with the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer and executives leading the regions, national business lines and functional teams to craft and execute a compelling and transparent approach to fostering authentic, candid and compelling dialogues that improve the employee experience at WSP, celebrate the diverse perspectives of our colleagues, and increase the adoption of company changes and messages.

+ Develop and oversee an enterprise-wide internal communications function that plans and executes successful and engaging employee communications, programs, and platforms designed to keep employees informed of major company news, programs, and services – ultimately activating staff as brand advocates and ambassadors.
+ Provide expert assistance by acting as a communications advisor, supporting the development and implementation of fully-integrated internal communications programs and ensuring that communications align with and support WSP’s purpose, values, and key business objectives.
+ Support and participate in a broad range of communications activities focused on engaging and enabling employees across a number of critical topics specifically, but not limited to: HR (Business Updates, Talent Performance, Benefits, Learning & Development, Inclusion & Diversity), Health and Safety, Finance, ESG, Client Program, Awards Programs, and more.
+ Provide strategic counsel on internal initiatives, drafting compelling content and storytelling-style communications for executives, people managers and employees, and overseeing internal editorial content.
+ Liaise with regional communications leaders and functions to ensure adequate support for the communication of key business initiatives.
+ Key project team member for company-wide in-person and virtual events, including the communications planning and execution of leadership conferences.
+ Seek to understand employee perceptions through formal and informal feedback and evaluating all communications programs through the lens of employee engagement.
+ Manage communications for unpredictable and sensitive change management issues, including reorganizations, leadership transitions, staffing changes, M&A, and crises.
+ Review and approve the process for communications vehicles and global campaigns, maintaining a focus on compelling and accessible content for all intended audiences.
+ Develop strategies to drive traffic to and improve the usage of Corporate Communications vehicles.
+ Direct and oversee the execution of visibility plans for major national events, collaboratively drafting and refining speeches, talking points, and other internal/external communications for national business line leaders and regional leadership.
+ Partner with IT to advance technology (e.g., data-driven mobile, intranet, video) to optimize communication platforms and tell a story as part of an integrated communications program.
+ Stay informed of best practices in internal communications, making recommendations for new strategies, programs, tactics, and tools.
+ Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff, mentoring staff to support their growth and professional development.
+ Fiscal responsibility for the Internal Communications budget, including relationship management with outside communications consultants and resources as necessary.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
**Who You Are**
+ Bachelor Degree in Marketing, Communications, Marketing, Business, or related field.
+ Minimum of 12 years of related communication with prior experience as a Communications Manager or equivalent in a B2B environment.
+ A strong track record as an implementer, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, assignments, and initiatives simultaneously.
+ Excellent self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with others effectively, persuasively, and tactfully.
+ Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
+ Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including organizational managers and staff, executives, and external stakeholders, including those with whom no formal professional relationship exits.
+ Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives with measurable results.
+ High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
+ Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
+ Advanced writing, editing, and presentations skills.
+ Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
+ Intermediate level of proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
+ Intermediate to Advanced level of proficiency with SharePoint and O365 tools.
+ Ability to travel as needed.
+ Master’s Degree in related field.
