About the Position:

National Grid is seeking an Electrical Engineer for a position within Distribution Planning & Asset Management (DPAM) in Syracuse, NY.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

* Develop recommendations for required modifications and additions to sub-transmission and distribution facilities

* Enhance the reliability and resiliency of the system to adverse weather events and other events

* Modernize the grid in a fashion to meet forecasted capacity requirements, expanding customer service quality and 3rd party expectations

* Consider economics, risks, customer and environmental impacts of proposed distribution projects

* Assess the various traditional and new distribution planning solutions available such as non-wires alternatives, smart grids, microgrids, energy storage etc.

* Make contributions to long term strategic plans

* Planning studies will be scheduled and implemented in accordance with management direction.

* Support a host of activities that address customer technical requirements

* Assist in regional customer operations in the technical operation of the distribution system

* Lead activities in tracking regional distribution reliability performance and promoting actions to improve it

* Conduct medium and high voltage customer and distributed generation interconnection studies and engineering activities in alignment with various standards

* Provide support and share knowledge with other areas of National Grid such as Electric Operations, Regional Control Center, Substation Engineering, Distribution Design, New Energy Solutions, and Regulatory Strategy.

* Provide technical guidance to customers and 3rd parties

* Represent the company on industry and regulatory working groups as appropriate

* Ensure the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives

* Assist with Emergency/Storm Response as required Assisting with restoration of electric service to customers from large interruptions as a result of major storms/events.

Knowledge & Experience:

Required:

* A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school. Professional experience with determined appropriate Engineer position / title.

* Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred:

* Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation.

* Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation.

* Knowledge and experience of planning software tools such as CYME, PSSE etc.

* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

* Work in a Project Management team environment.

* Adapts approach and considers what is important to the audience and tailors message accordingly.

* Actively builds and maintains a network of relationships, outside normal business contacts.

* Takes personal responsibility for correcting problems promptly and non-defensively communicates engineering customer expectations to monitor delivery of engineering projects and satisfaction.

* Proactively makes changes to improve performance, efficiency and effectiveness of processes; for example, challenge existing engineering procedures and highlight areas for improvement.

* Possesses positive expectations for team members and expresses regard for them.

* Is receptive to change and is willing to change ideas or opinions based on new information or contrary evidence.
