POSITION SUMMARY

Calculates computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients. Computes standard dose calculations and determines computerized generation of isodose curves for external beam radiation treatment programs. Calculates treatment machine settings, documents calculations, and records treatment data in therapy chart.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist providing 3-D external beam isodose treatment plans, irregular shaped beam plans, IMRT inverse treatment plans, simulation procedures, hand and computer/calculator calculations under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicist and Director
  • Verifies the physicians prescribed course of treatment, patient identification, fields of treatment, and treatment parameters beginning with treatment planning/simulation throughout the entire treatment course
  • Performs CT simulation procedures
  • Ensures completeness and accuracy of information entered into the medical record, written or electronic. Utilizes the MOSAIQ information management system as needed
  • Enters patient charges according to defined department policy, utilizing single, auto-capture, and multi-code capture abilities in MOSAIQ
  • Provides block cutting electron treatment fields; verifies proper mounting. Works with the Radiation Oncologist in accurately documents changes in the medical record
  • Provides monitoring and observation of IMRT/SRS/SBRT treatments when necessary
  • Assists with IMRT quality assurance in physicist's absence
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
  • Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
  • Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Exercises good judgment, demonstrates effective critical thinking skills
  • Flexible, able to prioritize and address multiple responsibilities concurrently
  • Works effectively under stress and frequently changing job requirements/situations
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
  • Demonstrates clinical radiation oncology skills including linear accelerator treatments, computerized treatment planning, simulation, ultrasound and low-dose-rate Brachytherapy
  • Demonstrates independent judgment and the ability to work independently or as part of a team, with and without direct supervision
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills, mathematical and computer background, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in prioritizing assignments
  • Familiar with and maintains knowledge of the physical and geometric characteristics of the radiation therapy equipment and radioactive sources commonly used in the RTC

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) by Medical Dosimetry Certification Board
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 60-day grace period

EXPERIENCE
(Essential job requirements listed in bold )

  • Three years (3) recent experience in Medical Dosimetry
  • Previous experience with current planning system SBRT/SRS/3-D capability preferred
  • Previous experience in CT Simulation preferred
