Continental Tide is seeking a motivated, energetic and detail-oriented individual for a Mechanical Engineer position located at Philadelphia Naval Business Center in Philadelphia, PA. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge and experience in the research, design, installation, testing, maintenance and integration of shipboard mechanical systems that includes working knowledge of the Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Naval Shipyard, and Regional maintenance centers. The successful candidate will join our Engineering Team currently supporting initiatives for Naval Sea Systems Command at the Naval Ship Systems Engineering Station/NSWCPD.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Responsible for providing engineering support during the installation, operation, troubleshooting, and/or maintenance of shipboard systems.
+ Apply engineering principles to support system research and development (R&D) and design, production, and shipboard integration for PLC control systems and equipment.
+ Lead technical project teams, schedules, reports and brief customers and senior management.
+ Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university or MS degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
+ 10 years Research and Development (R&D) experience PLC control systems, Fluid Control Systems, Machinery Control Systems, Propulsion and Auxiliary Systems and solutions, including but not limited to tank level indication, air compression systems, valves and actuator technology and mechanical and electrical and thermal development and regulation of controls and input/output
+ Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings, installation specifications and NAVSEA Standard Items is preferred.
+ Knowledge of machinery automation and PLC-based control systems
+ Must have or have the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
+ Must have the ability to obtain base access and security credentials
+ Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
+ Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
+ Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
