Battelle is seeking an **FPGA Developer** to work in the Electronic Warfare group within the Cyber Business Line. The position is located at Battelle Headquarters in **Columbus, OH** .


**JOB SUMMARY**


The FPGA Developer will work in the Cyber Business Line focused on the convergence of electronic warfare and cyber. Our group works across Battelle to lead and/or support Applied Research and Engineering projects in support of US Government and commercial clients. The candidate will work alongside other Battelle professionals to deliver capabilities in accordance with established cost, schedule, and technical metrics.


The ideal candidate is proactive, eager to learn, and can view problems analytically and creatively. Although technical competence and critical thinking skills are expected at Battelle, emphasis is placed on technical/non-technical problem solving, effectiveness, and tenacity


**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**


The candidate will support engineering projects that involve design, analysis, simulation, and testing of FPGA firmware/software for communications, signal intelligence, radar, and electronic warfare.


Travel may be required. Responsibilities include:


+ Lead individual or small team FPGA development efforts


+ Perform conceptual design, detailed design, simulation and testing of FPGA firmware/software to describe signal processing functions focused in the areas of radar, communications, signal intelligence and electronic warfare.


+ Adhere to Systems Engineering process flows (requirements definition and traceability, design documentation, test planning and reporting, etc.).


+ Perform modeling of signal processing functions using Matlab and other Engineering software tools.


+ Evaluate and integrate third-party intellectual property and debugging cores.


+ Conduct laboratory and/or field test and/or experiments.


**THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED**


+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field.


+ Experience and/or course work in Communications and Digital Signal Processing.


+ Experience implementing phased array processing functions such as beamforming/beamsteering and direction finding.


+ Experience developing FPGA firmware using VHDL and Verilog.


+ Experience developing software in C, C++ and Python.


+ Experience developing FPGA firmware/software solutions utilizing a combination of FPGA fabric and embedded processor cores.


+ Experience in writing technical reports and/or proposals.


+ Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical audiences.


+ Responsible contributor who proactively follows-up on delegated tasks.


+ Ability to document/support technical analysis and assessments with strong attention to detail.


+ Ability to work independently or as part of a larger team.


+ U.S. Citizen with willingness/ability to possess a DoD security clearance.


**THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED**


+ Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related degree.


+ Experience and/or course work in electromagnetic theory and applications including antenna design.


+ Experience and/or course work in RF/microwave circuit design, including amplifiers, mixers, and filters.


+ Experience utilizing FPGA-based software defined radio platforms.


+ Experience developing with RFSoC or equivalent.


+ Experience utilizing VITA 49.2 protocol standard.


+ Experience utilizing FPGA-based high-speed transceiver hard cores.


+ Experience leading customer or externally funded project teams of three or more.


+ Experience with gathering customer requirements and generating System Requirements.


+ Demonstrable Systems engineering basics.


+ Understanding of the system life cycle.


+ Experience in writing technical reports.


+ Experience in making timely technical decisions while weighing project risks and schedule considerations.


+ Knowledge/experience with the intelligence community.


+ Current DoD Security Clearance.


+ Experience with MATLAB and LabVIEW.
