Job Description:

The Fixed Asset Accountant reports to the Director of Accounting and works closely with Accounting Manager, Controller and the department of Real Estate Development. This position has ownership of the accounting and reporting for all fixed assets and sub-ledger systems including accounts payable, general ledger, budgeting and operational reporting. This position also assists with financial analysis, reporting to senior management and quarterly reviews and year end audits related to fixed assets.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

* Review amounts capitalized or expensed as repairs and maintenance or fixed assets adhering to company capitalization policy

* Recording new assets in fixed asset sub-ledger including coding, verifying, reconciling, recording and adjusting assets

* Run and record monthly additions, disposals, transfers and depreciation journal entries in the sub ledger system and reconcile to the general ledger

* Generate all journal entries related to fixed assets activity as needed in general ledger

* Maintain reconciliation of fixed asset sub-ledger to general ledger for construction in process and all capital assets and record and track any variances

* Monitor construction in progress and transfers to restaurants under construction from vendors and warehouse

* Prepare all period end and quarter end fixed asset and construction in progress reporting for management and financial reporting

* Report and track progress on fixed assets and construction in progress spend for comparison to management capital budgets for new construction projects

* Report and track progress on maintenance capital expenditures for reporting to operations and executive team

* Assist with budget, budget reconciliation and forecasting functions

* Assist with management of dcor inventory with warehouse manager and staff

* Assist with the recording of fixed asset related accounting matters including disposals, impairments, retirements, and other

* Prepare tax related schedules or returns, book to tax reconciliations and tax related reporting

Job Requirements:

* Bachelors or higher degree in Accounting preferred with good working knowledge of GAAP or equivalent experience

* Minimum of 3+ years of fixed asset accounting experience in a role with ownership of entire fixed asset accounting process

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills

* Experience using a Solomon, Great Plains, or equivalent accounting systems fixed asset sub ledger package

Required Skills and Qualities:

* Self-motivated, with ability to work independently to complete prescribed duties and assignments

* Work product must be high quality and accurate

* Have ability to consistently meet deadlines on a timely basis

* Possess the verbal and written communication skills to effectively correspond with co-workers and all levels of management

* Exhibit strong time management and organizational skills, with ability to multi-task and manage shifting priorities

Preferred:

* Restaurant/Retail/Hospitality industry accounting experience

* Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley controls, implementation and audits

* Commercial real estate and/or construction experience a plus
