Job Summary

Under direct supervision of the wound clinic physician or designee, administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the hyperbaric physician. Is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber and related support systems. Is responsible for day-to-day maintenance of hyperbaric chamber and related support systems. Assist in the delivery of patient care appropriate to the level of his/her medical training.

Prepare patients for treatment by giving explanation of the purpose and procedure of treatment and as well as education regarding pre-, post- and intra treatment information/ instructions. Prepare the hyperbaric chamber, equipment, medicine and materials as needed for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Observe patients and the hyperbaric systems during the course of hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Report unusual occurrences to hyperbaric physician and records patients condition. Keep complete, legible and accurate patient records as they pertain to assessment, treatment and documentation of care, education, and discharge instruction. Maintain operating, maintenance and safety logs and other required documentation. Sign all logs as specified in departmental policy and procedure. Perform preventive and any other required maintenance on the hyperbaric system appropriate to level of training. Maintain competencies, continuing education and certification as appropriate. Participate in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills: Must possess good verbal and written communications with the ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions independently.
Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with patients, visitors and other hospital associates and departments.
Must possess physical ability to move patients with assistance from other personnel and mechanical devices if indicated.

Basic computer, data entry, typing, filing and organization skills required.
Abilities: Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts and/or extra shifts, various locations, sometimes on short notice.
Environmental Conditions: Potential exposure to fumes, dust, gases, and odors. Frequent changes in temperature may occur. Possibility of exposure to communicable diseases.
