Global Service Resources is seeking to obtain the technical expertise of a Desktop Support Specialist to provide desktop support services for integrated projects. The Specialist shall configure and deploy workstations and peripherals for end-user staff at various DMH facilities and co-locations at 126 sites throughout the County with an additional 28 planned in Fiscal Year (FY) 2017/2018 and thereafter will provide desk-side assistance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs as required.

A Little Background Information:

You will work on scheduled replacement of desktop and laptop computers aged five (5) years or more, migration of all users from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and migration of all users from Office 2010 to Office 2016 and 365services.

You will configure and migrate desktop and laptop computer systems from Microsoft Windows (Windows) 7 to Windows 10, and from Microsoft Office Suite (Office) 2010 to Office 2016 and 365, and provide additional related services to endusers. The Specialist shall be assigned to various projects and provide additional support as needed to meet user support requirements.

Each of these projects involves tasks to be physically performed at the Department of Mental Health sites. You will be expected to use your own vehicle. Gas and mileage will not be reimbursed. Everything will be a part of your negotiated hourly pay... But think about it this way- you will be paid to sit in traffic and listen to the radio on the way to the next, nearby job site!


+ Install and configure PC equipment and peripherals.

+ Image desktop computers.

+ Install and configure Microsoft Windows operating system (OS), software, including applications and system management tools.

+ Customize the desktop environment by modifying installation parameters and updating or modifying configuration.

+ Perform basic hardware service, repairs, and troubleshooting.

+ Investigate and analyze configuration problems, including security anomalies, and take corrective action.

+ Join workstations to Active Directory.

+ Implement configuration settings according to documented procedures and standards to ensure security and consistency with Departmental standards.

+ Troubleshoot desktop problems such as IP conflicts, driver conflicts, DNS configuration issues, etc.

+ Work with the Help Desk’s HEAT service ticket system and Service Catalog system to receive assignments, initiate support requests to other IT groups, document work on service tickets, and document ticket closure and outcomes.

+ Identify IT equipment requiring new bar-coded asset labels, affix labels and record transaction data.

+ Provide status reports, in a format and content approved by the County’s Project Manager.

+ Provide outstanding customer service.

+ Travel to sites within Los Angeles as required by the County Project Manager


1. A+ Certified. Documentation must be provided with bid response.

2. Four (4) years of experience within the last five (5) years coordinating and implementing major desktop hardware/software installation projects and providing high-level expertise in resolving problems related to the implementation of Active Directory to the Desktop.

3. Four (4) years of experience within the last five (5) years configuring and maintaining Windows 7 and 8.1 workstations.

4. Four (4) years of experience within the last five (5) years in the following: a. Supporting Microsoft Exchange Clients b. Managed Print Services c. Symantec Endpoint Protection d. Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
