Spaceflight Industries is looking for a talented and creative Satellite Systems Engineer to support the development and capability evolution of our BlackSky satellites. As part of the satellite systems engineering team, you are instrumental in supporting the satellite product line throughout all phases of the satellite development lifecycle. You will be responsible for ensuring the satellites that are produced satisfy both the technical requirements and work within the BlackSky operations framework.

This position is a critical element of the BlackSky systems engineering team and is expected to work collaboratively with the satellite development team to ensure success. The ideal candidate has a combination of satellite development experience, familiarity with satellite system engineering as well as working in a development oversight capacity. Additionally, the candidate has the demonstrated ability to take on broad scope of work successfully through the combination of team leadership and contribute to tasks / analysis efforts independently. Finally, the candidate should be an independent thinker with the demonstrated ability and willingness to lean in and solve new problems.

Responsibilities:

* Translation of operational and business requirements into satellite system requirements; including development, decomposition and trade/evaluation of requirements across the satellite baseline.

* Ability to define and execute multidisciplinary engineering design trades to inform technology investment decisions

* Oversight and engagement with satellite design and manufacturing teams to deliver satellite systems that align with business objectives and specifications

* Assessment and evaluation of engineering decisions to ensure adherence to technical objectives

* Interface effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including satellite and ground system engineers, program management, software developers, IT, and systems engineering

* Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment

Required Qualifications and Experience:

* 5+ years of technical experience in the development of complex autonomous systems (preferably involving satellites or their subsystems)

* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline

* Possess strong team leadership and inter-team cooperation and organization skills

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong understanding of audience

* Ability to multi-task within a startup, fast paced environment

* Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder)

Desired Skills:

* 7+ years relevant technical experience, preferably in a space systems development environment

* Advanced degree in engineering or related discipline with a focus on Space Systems

* Thorough understanding of satellites systems and associated subsystems

* Broad understanding of space systems and the interface/relationships between satellites and the other components of a space mission architecture

* Experience defining, executing trades and managing technical budgets with satellite engineering staff (such as Propulsion Budget, Link Budget, Mass Budget, Power Budget, Pointing Budget, etc)

* Knowledgeable of space regulatory, compliance and export requirements and their effect on system design

* Familiarity with small satellite design and qualification processes and testing best practices
