The MITRE Expeditionary Department is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Model Based Systems Engineer. The MITRE Expeditionary Department delivers innovative concepts, technologies, and methodologies enabling current and future Naval superiority. Risk takers skilled in recognizing agility across a complex enterprise will find a home in the Naval Division where their skills will push the boundaries of military digital and mission engineering. This position requires creative problem solving through novel applications of systems of systems engineering and strategic enterprise architecture to improve future system technology development, requirements development, and sponsor investments.


The ideal candidate will have deep operational and domain knowledge of the Marine Corps meshed with an understanding of tactical architectures, capability and requirements analysis, and techniques. The successful candidate will enjoy working with diverse and geographically dispersed teams to answer our sponsors’ hardest questions regarding the application of systems engineering principles to critical systems employments.


Job Responsibilities:


+ Leading Tasks/Projects and teams to accomplish project objectives/address sponsor problems


+ Modeling architectures of complex systems using standards-based languages (ex. SysML/UML)


+ Evaluating and comparing alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques


+ Articulating major uncertainties associated with systems architectures, defining risks and opportunities associated with the uncertainties


+ Supporting requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes


+ Collaborating closely with our sponsors and our team to identify critical problems and engineer approaches to address them.


+ Applying systems engineering principles and approaches to inform evidence driven decision making by sponsors


+ Collaborating across the organization to leverage diverse thought and solutions to our sponsor problems


+ Clearly and concisely communicating highly technical analyses and recommendations to sponsors and partners in written and verbal products


Basic Qualifications:


+ Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.


+ Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.


Required Qualifications:


+ Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline (e.g., information systems, engineering, computer science, information technology)


+ DoD secret clearance


+ Related experience in systems analysis and integration, mission analysis, capabilities development, requirements analysis, and/or business process analysis


+ Demonstrated application of model-based systems engineering and digital engineering using SySML and tools such as MagicDraw, Cameo, and Rhapsody


+ Knowledge of DoD’s acquisition and requirements processes


+ Demonstrated experience performing impactful analytical work


+ Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely (oral and written)


+ Knowledge of Navy, Marine Corps, Joint, and Interagency domains


Preferred Qualifications:


+ Master’s Degree in a technical discipline (e.g., information systems, engineering, computer science, information technology)


+ A current/active DoD Top Secret clearance


+ Demonstrated technical management and leadership for SE projects that require cross-disciplinary collaboration


+ Demonstrated application of model-based systems engineering and digital engineering using SySML and tools such as Cameo and Rhapsody


+ Knowledge of Analysis of Alternatives, Verification and Validation, Design of Experiments and data analytics.
