Northeast Regional Professional Development CenterThe Northeast Missouri Regional Professional Development Center mission is to build the capacity of educators and schools to maximize student performance through high-quality professional development. The Center is part of DESEs State-wide System of Support and is totally grant-funded. It is located on the campus of Truman State University.MATHEMATICS CONSULTANT (2 Positions)JOB DESCRIPTION:This 12-month, full-time, professional position will provide educators with support to assist districts in the development and implementation of effective instructional methods, assessments and/or activities related to improving academic performance, as well as collaborate with other initiatives and interagency work of the RPDCs and DESE to provide support to identified districts and schools. This position will require travel in the northeast region, as well as in-state travel to state meetings. [This is currently a 1-3 year ESSER-funded position, but could potentially be extended.]RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide training to districts oninstruction, including mathematical teaching practices and mathematical practices;how to promote best practice for effective mathematics instruction (and skills related to fluency, appropriate grade-level rigor, use of student work to reflect on instruction) and intervention aligned with the acceleration of learning for all students;developing best practices for effective classroom discourse practices aligned with the current research of instruction and intervention effectiveness for all students;how to use priority standards to support instruction and as well as using priority standards resources.As requested, provide coaching on developing classroom and local assessment.Assistall partner districts in improving academic achievement of students;educators in implementing effective, evidenced-based instructional practices and strategies;identified districts within the region to improve post-secondary outcomes for students;DESE with the collection of data for state-wide analysis.Attend and participate in monthly, multi-day meetings with other consultants, as well as collaborative planning meetings with other mathematics consultants within and across regions.Attend and actively participate in state-wide monthly resource, support, and training meetings.Attend and participate in any conference as requested by DESE Technical Contact, as well as regional and national conferences as requested by DESE.Other duties and functions as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Elementary or secondary content-specific teaching certificateThree years of classroom experienceExperience with mathematics instruction, intervention, and assessment practicesThorough knowledge of the contentHigh-level of skills in development, presentation, meeting facilitation, coaching, and delivery of quality professional learning to adult learnersWorking knowledge of technologyAbility to express complex ideas to a variety of audiences clearly and concisely, both orally and in writingPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Coaching, presenting, consulting, and facilitating skillsEffective meeting management and processes/protocolsLeadership skillsAbility to meet deadlinesAbility to prepare reportsAbility to use technology in development, presentation, and delivery of trainingUnderstanding of significant research in the field of mathematics education and the ability to apply the findings to the improvement of instruction.
