SMMA Mid-Level Architect (Cambridge) Architecture - Cambridge, MA - Full Time SMMA has an exciting opportunity for a mid-level architect to join our growing Government Studio with stimulating projects at our Cambridge and/or Providence offices. We are an integrated design firm that unites a dynamic mix of architects, interior designers, engineers, design technologists, researchers, and industry experts, driven to provide responsible, well-crafted, venturesome, and beautiful design solutions to clients in the Boston area and beyond. SMMA has been selected to provide design services to multiple Department of Defense agencies. We are seeking a mid-level architect who is interested in supporting the growth and development of the studio, someone committed to delivering quality facilities that integrate high-level design, functionality, and sustainability for federal government users. The selected candidate will work alongside the Project Architect and join a team of specialists experienced in solving the unique challenges of federal government clients and navigating the special requirements, permitting, and energy needs often inherent to their projects. The candidate will be encouraged to provide new ideas and share knowledge and design research that will advance the firms mission and his/her professional career. Key Responsibilities Communicating and keeping other project team members engaged while coordinating systems, structure, and program functions Developing the design to reinforce the design intent while balancing cost, code, constructability constraints, and client expectations. Taking an active role in all project phases, from schematic design through construction administration Ability to work independently, as well as part of project teams, and partner with knowledge experts to seek out design opportunities and apply best practices Minimal Qualifications Minimum Bachelor of Architecture degree; Masters degree preferred 5 to 10 years professional experience; licensure or in active pursuit thereof Familiarity with Government Criteria, including Unified Facilities Criteria and other applicable Military Standards Strong communication and interpersonal skills coupled with design thinking Mastery of digital tools to serve the design process (for BIM, 3D modeling, design visualization, team management, client correspondence) High level of interest in conceptual, technical, and managerial aspects of the building design process Please note: SMMA does not offer H-1B visa sponsorship for this position
