General summary/purpose:

Reporting to the Multimedia Technical Supervisor, the Multimedia Technician, as part of a support team committed to excellence in customer service, will implement and support JHMI institutions and event technical needs, basic trouble shooting and maintenance of podium and classroom PC's, and equipment inventory. The successful candidate must be highly proactive and demonstrate the ability to work independently, maintain organization and customer service excellence with faculty, staff and students. The role includes Multimedia administrative activities and requires demonstration of professional and administrative conduct. Position serves as a liaison to areas within the University, and to external contacts.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

Event Support: 80%

* Provides primary audio visual support for all JHMI institutions and external customers for all JHMI auditoriums.

* Utilize creative and technical knowledge to research and secure quotes for equipment needs.

* Provides consultative services for students, faculty and staff on the use of multimedia equipment and resources.

* Maintains relationships with customers. Accurately interprets, completes and invoices for services.

* Perform technical set-up and operate multimedia hardware and software. Support live and pre-recorded productions for web casts.

Operational Support: 20%

* Promote & provide multimedia services and support for all facets of operations, including classes, conferences, public events, and general office operations. Includes: audiovisual, digital media, web cast and video conferencing.

* Maintains inventory of all multimedia equipment. Creates reports as needed.

* Provides recommendation on new multimedia equipment and software.

* Provides feedback on multimedia service demands and customer service concerns to ensure demand and service options are meeting needs and appropriate resources are available.

* Recommends basic office purchases and regular recurring supplies.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Minimum qualifications (mandatory): Requires bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of related experience. Additional experience may substitute for some education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Job requires a motivated self-starter, able to work independently with minimal supervision. Attention to detail, customer service, and positive work ethic a must. Position requires occasional evening hours and weekends. On a regular and continuous basis exercises judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, relationships, costs, and/or quality of service and customer satisfaction within the school.

Five years related experience with at least two years experience working in an educational environment in a multimedia role.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:

Standard office computers [Macintosh and PC] and equipment, Microsoft Office Professional, FTP programs, Internet Browsers. Standard auditorium based and portable audio/visual equipment. Experience with laptops, desktop computers, LCD's, microphones and Audio/video production.

Any specific physical requirements for the job: Requires the ability to bend, push, lift and assemble equipment of approximately 50 lbs

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
