PURPOSE OF POSITION:

MeredithSchuh, MD of the division of Nephrology and Hypertension, in conjunction withRafi Kopan, PhD, is seeking a talented individual experienced in cellular and molecular biology for a full time RAII position. The focus of our work is to uncover the mechanism of decreasednephron endowment in premature infants. We employ diverse approaches tocharacterize the molecular pathways of human nephrogenesis including multiplexin situ hybridization on archival material and 3D tissue clearing and imagingtechniques of various animal models. Previous experience with mousework, tissue collection and histologic analysis, cell culture, immunofluorescence,immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, and Elements/Imaris image analysisrecommended. Responsibilities

* Perform Experiments and Record Data

Follow research protocol. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments. Analyze data; perform statistical and graphical analysis of data. Design and execute daily laboratory experiments in coordination with senior laboratory personnel. Reproduces and evaluates techniques and results for accuracy. Apply standard protocols to specific experiments, research and improve current methods, and evaluate innovative techniques. Assists in training students and new/junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.

* Lab Administration

Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment. Reproduces and evaluates techniques and results for accuracy. Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment. Maintain cell cultures. Operate standard laboratory equipment. Use and maintains laboratory equipment appropriately. Responds to obviously erroneous results or problems with equipment. Assists in daily operations of the laboratory including answering phone, maintaining lab supplies, organization, and cleanliness.. Provides appropriate safety monitoring checks as assigned (radiation safety, biosafety, etc.).

Maintain/manage strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders. Respond to requests quickly and effectively. Identify and understand customer needs and expectations and meets them. Communicate any relevant information to clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.

Required:

* Bachelor's Degree in a related field OR

* Associate's Degree in a specialized scientific discipline AND 2 years related experience OR

* High School Graduate OR Equivalent AND 4 years related experience OR

* The prior or current Principal Investigator can document extraordinary contributions that demonstrates an equivalent level of expertise

* Research laboratory experience with exposure to laboratory procedures, likely including instrumentation, tissue culture, and animal handling

Preferred:

* Undergraduate research experience
