Job Description

General Summary:Under the general supervision of the Advanced Life Support Coordinator and the direct voice order of the Medical Commander, responds to emergency calls and performs a variety of functions related to the care and treatment of patients suffering from urgent and emergent disease and/or injury states in accordance with appropriate rules, regulations and protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:The following are essential job accountabilities:(These functions are performed in the field and outside of the hospital) 1 Performs triage functions. 2 Responds to emergency calls, observes safety policies and operates an emergency vehicle with due regard for others. 3 Checks patient's vital signs. 4 Prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues I.V. fluids. 5 Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members. 6 Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and assists in patient assessment. (These functions are performed in the Emergency department and Waiting Area) 7 Checks patient's vital signs. (These functions are performed in the Emergency Department in emergency situations and only under the direct supervision of the Physician, who must be physically present in the Emergency Department. (An emergency situation is defined as a situation for which an absence of intervention within hours will result in loss of life or significant impairment of body function.)) 8 Prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues I.V. fluids. 9 Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and assists in patient assessment.
