Work Schedule: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Summary:
Drawing all types of blood specimens (except blood gases)from adults, children and infants. Responsible for a variety of clerical, record keeping, specimen handling and shipping. Required to work weekend and/or holiday hours in accordance with Laboratory needs.
Responsibilities:
• Practices the Gold Standard Behaviors • Instructs patients in proper collection of Laboratory specimens. • Communicates with physicians, nurses, clients and co workers in a courteous manner. • Answers the telephone as courteously and quickly as possible and conveys messages promptly. • Collects specimens and processes correctly. • Deals with patients in an appropriate manner consistent with age specific guidelines. • Determines acceptability of specimens submitted to the Lab. • Notifies technologist, nurse, or doctor of unacceptable specimens and documents the incident. • Notifies technologist, nurse or doctor on proper specimen collection. • Identifies abnormal results and brings them to the attention of a Technologist. • Reviews clerical procedures as required and recommends appropriate changes. • Provides support in implementation of new procedures and routines. • Request ETO at least three weeks in advance except for unanticipated illness, family emergency, or at their supervisor’s discretion. • Submits supply request as needed. • Receives and checks supplies as they arrive contacting the Chief Technologist when errors are observed. • Seeks out opportunities to enhance personal professional development. • Attends continuing education programs, when available and reads Laboratory journals to keep current on new techniques and procedures. • Reviews clerical procedures as required and recommends appropriate changes. • Meets and greets customers, and serves as public relations contact for Laboratory. • Protecting the good name and reputation of the Hospital.
