Plant 80 - HR Safety - 1st Shift - EHS Technician


Position Overview


.


Under the direction of the Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) Manager, the EHS Technician will support facility EHS operations by completing critical tasks designed to promote compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations, Shaw Management System (SMS) requirements, and general industry Best Practice.


DUTIES


Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


+ Monitors site conditions, practices, and procedures for compliance with health and safety requirements per Shaw Safety Policy, Risk Management Procedures, and OSHA Standards


+ Working knowledge of all SAFE system programs, the Environmental Handbook, and SMS


+ Record safety and environmental data and compile it into reports for Management Team


+ Serves as a source of information on health and safety issues to hourly employees


+ Coordinate and develop training & drills for PEO Team


+ Performs routine safety and environmental inspections and follows-up to ensure proper action has been taken


+ Perform additional functions to health and safety activities


+ Demonstrate safe work practices and avoid unsafe behaviors


+ Coordinate Shift Safety Committee efforts


+ Maintain and monitor facility SDSs in the HSI system and periodically audit to verify accuracy


+ Perform SAFE system compliance audits and tasks which may include but is not limited to the following:


+ Fire systems (riser checks, fire doors, extinguishers, sprinkler inspections, alarms, exits, evacuation maps, fire system testing, etc.)


+ Ladder inspections


+ Eyewash and Shower inspections


+ Fall protection Inspections


+ PIT inspections


+ LOTO Audit


+ Noise monitoring


+ Hoist and Crane inspections


+ Confined Space Reviews


+ Hot Work Permits / Fire watch


+ Perform Environmental system compliance audits and tasks which may include but are not limited to the following:


+ SPCC inspections


+ SWPPP inspections


+ Waste Storage and accumulation area inspections. Responsible for the waste logs and inventory


+ ACM inspections


+ Chemical Storage / Containment / Spill equipment inspections


+ Coordination of wastewater sampling


+ Pollution control equipment inspections


+ Coordinate safety eyeglass program and the safety shoe program


+ Participate in the Incident Investigation process and follow up on corrective actions


+ Assist FM Global with facility inspections


+ Assist the EHS Manager in maintaining an accurate inventory of all SARA Title III reportable chemicals and their quantities


+ Monitor contractor safety and adherence to Shaw requirements.


+ Other duties as assigned by Department Manager

QUALIFICATIONS


+ Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail


+ Familiar with Federal, State, and OSHA regulations


+ Ability to work within a team or independently as required


+ Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing


+ Bilingual


EDUCATION/TRAINING


+ High School diploma or GED equivalency


+ OSHA 30 hr General Industry certification and/or related safety certification (preferred)


+ Fall Protection Competent Person Certified (Preferred) or must be able to obtain within 3 months of obtaining the position


+ CPR/First Aid certified by the American Red Cross or must be able to obtain within 3 months of obtaining the position


+ Must be able to obtain Hoisting and Rigging Authorizing Person certification


+ Valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record (preferred)


Work Shift


8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
