Immediate need for a direct hire maintenance mechanic in an extrusion facility in south Charlotte. Scheduled for rotating night shift (7pm-7am, 2/2/3/2/2). We prefer a candidate with prior extrusion experience but it isn't required. Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma/GED, clean criminal history, be able to pass pre-employment drug test & physical and have a valid driver's license & transportation.


  • To support machinery and facility maintenance activities. These maintenance activities are to be conducted while ensuring and maximizing safety, product quality, production output, housekeeping and cost control to achieve plant goals.


  1. Support and comply with EH&S policies and procedures as communicated and documented.
  2. Maintain acceptable housekeeping, environmental and safe working conditions.
  3. Support and comply with the efforts of the Joint, Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
  4. Attend and participate in monthly employee meetings.
  5. Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor immediately. Cooperate, participate, and provide information during the accident/incident investigation upon request.
  6. Inspect and report potential unsafe/hazardous conditions.
  7. Use all protective guards and devices and report any absence or defect in any equipment or device.
  8. Wear and use personal protective equipment appropriately.
  9. Report non-conformances in any lockout equipment and/or device and do not attempt to operate or energize any machine, equipment or process when it is locked and tagged out.
  10. Comply with working at heights requirements.
  11. Report all injuries/accidents/incidents regardless of how minor and document the use of first aid supplies.
  12. Provide documentation and comply with Claims Management and Modified/Restricted Work requirements when applicable .
  13. Participate and comply with New Hire/Promotion Orientation and HR Best Practices ? USA.
  14. Attend and participate in training and the plant training matrix.
  15. Comply and support the hazardous condition program by reading labels and MSDS?s, following warnings, precautions and work instructions, using the correct personal protective equipment, learning emergency procedures and practicing safe work habits.
  16. Comply with work instructions.
  17. Comply with mobile equipment safe working practices and guidelines including pre-use inspections.
  18. Know, understand and comply with all emergency preparedness procedures.
  19. Comply and support EH&S goals and objectives.
  20. Immediately report any unsafe practices/conditions to your Shift Supervisor and work in accordance with safety rules/policies/work procedures.
  21. Comply with all policies, procedures and work practices as outlined by the HR Best Practices ? USA, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and EH&S programs at all times.
  22. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.


  • High school degree or equivalent desired.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and do advanced mathematics.
  • Requires specialized technical knowledge in one or more fields of electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, and theoretical mechanics.
  • Requires advanced technical training in industrial electricity, electrical controls, process instrumentation, with some PLC troubleshooting experience.
  • Requires the ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain all plant equipment and diagnose operational problems in either electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical phases with limited instruction and supervision.
  • Must have (10) years previous Electrical, Mechanical, Pneumatic, Piping, and Welding experience.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of pneumatics, welding, Piping, Electrical, and various types of mechanical equipment.
  • Must be able to read mechanical blueprints, sketches, and electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Requires demonstration of specialized technical knowledge in one or more fields of electricity, hydraulics, process instrumentation, and theoretical mechanics.
  • Requires ability to repair and maintain all plant equipment and diagnose operational problems in electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical phases with limited instruction or supervision.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of operation of shop fabrication equipment.
  • Requires ability to repair and maintain shop equipment without supervision/instructions.
  • Requires adequate fabrication/millwright/mechanical hand tools.
  • Requires all tools usually required for a specialty with the exception of diagnostic equipment.
  • Requires limited ability to instruct and lead others.
  • Requires some ability to design and specify materials.
  • Must be able to be licensed to operate a fork truck.

Includes the following but not limited to these:

  • Makes repairs to all plant equipment without supervision
  • Make all electrical repairs without supervision
  • Advanced metal fabrication skills
  • Advanced welding capabilities with certification (Stick, Mig, and TIG)
  • Advanced Understanding of rigging
  • Advanced Pipe fitting
  • Perform daily shop inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Regularly encounters problems which involve multiple choice options, but through prior exposure, experience and established procedures/policies can determine the most appropriate course of action. Work involves both routine and non-routine tasks within well defined standards. Responsible for judgment in performing all duties.


  • Works closely with all departments.


  • Full physical mobility ? Ability to reach, bend, twist, walk, and lift 50 pounds or more on occasion. Work involves routine walking, lifting, moving and climbing as necessary.
  • Normal vision, not color blind. Normal hearing and English speaking abilities.


  • Responsible for compliance, practice and observance of all written safety rules, policies and procedures as presented by the company.


  • The physical effort required is considerable due to heavy physical activities of various kinds. The physical environment is considered moderate due to exposure to various substances or equipment which could produce discomfort and/or moderate risk of accident or ill-health. The sensory attention is considered moderate due to often requiring increased demand on two or more senses at a time. The mental stress is considered moderate due to regular pressures from deadlines, quotas and accuracy.


  • Work schedule may vary.


  • A/B Maintenance Technicians report to the Maintenance Supervisor. Work instructions will be directed by the Maintenance Supervisor but may be conveyed through Maintenance Lead hands. Lead hands do have the authority to direct, lead, and adjust work assignments within defined limits. The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Plant Engineer. The Plant Engineer reports to the Plant Manager.
