Provide a reasonably safe and secure environment for the patients, visitors, and staff. Officers work 10 hour shifts that are placed on a variable schedule. Shift duties include, but are not limited to: investigations of theft and fraud; de-escalating potentially violent situations using verbal skills and techniques and responding with proper force to actual violent acts within regulatory guidelines; confiscating weapons and other illegal contraband; responding to various emergency situations or disasters as directed; making contact with patients having all types of injury, illness, and disease; refusing entry to ,and if necessary, physically removing unauthorized persons; monitoring and transporting psychiatric patients within the hospital grounds; writing detailed reports on significant events; maintaining a high level of training; making routine patrols of all Mercy properties in the city of Springfield and surrounding areas.


Because youre committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. Thats why youll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Class E driver's license required within the first 90 days of employment.
  • IAHSS Basic certification within 90 days of hire or transfer into position.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
