**R&D Staff Mechanical Engineer**

Logan, Utah | Single-Use Technologies Division

**How will you make an impact?**

Thermo Fisher’s Single Use Technology Division focusing on providing bioprocessing solutions, with emphasis on single-use technologies enabling rapid progress for the biopharmaceutical industry.

The position sits within R&D and we flourish in an environment of flexibility and creativity. We deliver innovation and enjoy designing, testing, and releasing new product designs for new product launches **.**

As part of the R&D team, you will design, prototype, and test novel equipment and electromechanical technology. You will be provided an opportunity to mentor younger engineers and work alongside of one or more senior design engineer(s) as an interdisciplinary team to produce best-in-class bioprocessing solutions and equipment for the biopharma and biotech industries. In addition, you will help detail and support the release of new products into the market. Collectively, we work at teams and strive to be the best at what we do!

**What will you do?**

• Translate customer wants into new product designs and products through an iterative process.

• Collaborate with internal groups and customers, such as applications engineering, manufacturing process engineering, quality, purchasing, sourcing, and marketing.

• Participate in quantitative and quantitative risk ranking and mitigation assessment.

• Produce CAD confirmed models and release specifications and drawings for internal or external manufacturing or fabrication.

• Identify safe, innovative, and robust components and perform associated testing to qualify them.

• Plan, perform, and document design test plans and validation procedures.

**How will you get there?**

**Minimum Qualifications:**

• Self-motivated and willing to take clear ownership of work

• Proficiency with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, CSWA or CSWP certified

• Ability to optimally collaborate with other engineers across departments, both verbally and written

• Ability and experience planning, writing, executing, and documenting test plans

• Experience and proficiency at working in an interdisciplinary team and work environments

• Desire to learn new skills and gain proficiency (FEA, DFMEA, V-Model Trace Matrix, Design History File Creation, Root Cause Analysis)

**Preferred Qualifications:**

• BS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or other similarly appropriate skills (preferred 8+ years confirmed experience)

• Plastics design experience and processing knowledge for the following: injection molding, extrusion, blow/cast films, and plastic welding

• Hardware, equipment, or machine build design experience

• Automation and system design experience for addressing safety, ergonomics, and global regulatory compliance

• Experience in medical device, biopharma, or cell/gene therapy industries
