As a RF Research Engineer, you will...
Provide technical and team leadership for engineering efforts spanning (but not necessarily limited to) the Very Low Frequency through Ultra High Frequency RF bands including analysis of effects on propagation through various media (atmosphere, soil, and sea water). Develop and execute test campaigns for data collection, analysis, and results interpretation. Develop and lead internal and external research and development efforts.
* Lead efforts for VLF through UHF investigations (encompassing both laboratory and field environments with the latter, at times, involving airborne and at-sea platforms) to include the development of methods of analysis
* Lead/support efforts to collect signal data from communications equipment and assess the impacts of EMI and environmental factors. Provide recommendations for improving the operational performance of antenna and receiver systems.
* Lead/support internally and externally funded research and development efforts to apply VLF/LF/HF propagation and atmospheric noise models to various (communications and other-than-communications) problem sets.
* Provide written reports detailing results analysis
* Provide formal and informal presentations of project efforts and results
* Mentor junior engineers and provide training as necessary
You meet the minimum qualifications for this position if you have:
* An MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
* Three or more years of theoretical or experimental experience with Very Low Frequency, Low Frequency, and/or High Frequency wave propagation and ionospheric physics (including antenna/receive systems)
* Operational experience with standard laboratory test equipment (e.g., spectrum / waveform analyzers, radios, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.)
* Strong analysis and communication skills
* Experience with signal acquisition
* Experience with analysis and modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB, LabView, Matematica, Origin, etc.)
* The ability for occasional travel (field tests and sponsor briefs) (10-20 %)
* The ability to obtain a TS clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
Youâ€™ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have:
* An PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
* Fifteen or more years of theoretical or experimental experience with Very Low Frequency, Low Frequency, and/or High Frequency wave propagation and ionospheric physics (including antenna/receive systems)
* Previous field test experience
* An active TS clearance
