The Office of Residence Life at Berkeley College offers a broad range of services and programs that create safe, caring, and inclusive living-learning communities that foster students' academic success, personal growth, and social responsibility. Currently, Berkeley offers housing at 1 of our 8 locations; White Plains, NY. This position will be based out of the White Plains location.

The Resident Director (RD) for reports to the Director of Residence Life. The RD is responsible for assisting in the administrative and programmatic over site of the residence life program at the White Plains location. The role of the Residence Director is to establish and maintain a residence hall community conducive to the academic and personal growth of each resident, while being consistent with the goals and objectives of the college. The RD would create and advise a Residence Hall Council and assist with general administration of the residence halls including conduct, roommate mediation and room switches. Additionally, the Residence Director should be available for student concerns.


The RD is responsible for assisting in the management of a comprehensive residence life program, including, but not limited to:

* Assisting in the overall management of housing at the White Plains location including but not limited to the coordination of room changes, facilitating student housing meetings, building walk-through's, mediating roommate conflicts, conducting health and safety inspections, and responding to crisis situations;

* Overseeing the development of programs and activities within the residence area in conjunction with the Resident Assistant (RA) programming model.

* Works with the staff to develop a program vision, implement quality programs, and track

programming budget;

* Address, tracks, and follow-up on maintenance issues;

* Manages low-level judicial cases;

* Attends staff meetings, programs, departmental trainings and in-services;

* Manages Residence Life duty logs, reports, and other related reports;

* Plans and implements monthly RA staff development activities and in-services;

* Assisting with the planning and implementation of the RA Selection interviews & selection process

* Supervises and evaluation Senior Resident Assistant (SRA), Resident Assistants (RA), Community Assistants (CA);

* Assisting with the management of residence hall readiness for opening at the beginning of each semester and closing at the end of the each semester;

* Assist the Director of Residence Life with the residence life orientation which includes but not limited to student residence life meetings and parent orientation;

* Assist with Director of Residence Life with selection, training, and evaluation of professional and paraprofessional staff;

* Conduct weekly paraprofessional staff meeting and 1 on 1 meetings;

* Participating in the administrative on-call duty rotations;

* Serves as the advisor to the Building's hall council;

* Assist with departmental assessment projects as needed;

* Updates and maintain the Residence Life section on Blackboard;

* Assists with coordinate mailings concerning housing assignments and changes;

* Assisting with the managing the management of retention-related reports for the Office of Residence Life each semester, including but not limited to student withdrawals, leave of absences, and intent forms;

* Assisting with making room keys, ID cards, and other pertinent materials;

* Assisting with make new and retain past records of projections each semester;

* Maintains archives of residence hall records and statistics;

* Assisting with the distribute of mail and mailbox keys;

* Creates and update housing brochures and fliers;

* Develops and post appropriate signage for the residence hall;

* Manages and maintains records of and coordinates the assignment of residence halls damages;

* Assist with the reporting systems for occupancy, damages, furniture, key inventory, and other necessary report processes which relates to the housing operations;

* Assisting with the common area damage process and notifications;

* Manage at least 2 special assignments including but not limited to:

o In conjunction with the Associate Dean of Student Development and Campus Life (SDCL) manages the Spring China program;

o In conjunction with the Associate Dean of SDCL and Director of Residence Life

* Manages Residence Life programming model and major programming including but not limited to RA Caf, Midnight Breakfast, etc.;

* Manages the 1st year residence hall program entitled Project Blue;

* Manages Berkeley Emerging Leaders ( BEL) during the Winter;

Assisting with additional duties, projects, programs, and committees as needed.

RequirementsThe successful candidate should possess:


* Master's degree, currently enrolled, or will be enrolling in a Master's degree in Student Personnel or Higher Education Administration;

* A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in a college or university Housing and Residence Life environment;

* excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;

* ability to work effectively with students from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences;

* ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with students, parents, faculty, student affairs colleagues and community members;

* Interest and proficiency with various social media platforms;

* Experience with the Blackboard or Canvas learning management system;

* Interest in collaboration, teamwork, and innovation;

* Ability to work independently;

* A sense of humor and the ability/comfort to work in a dynamic fast paced and student centered work environment.
