Sonic Drive In Assistant Manager

Assistant Manager Expectations




  • Assists in managing the operations of a Sonic Drive-in and periodically assumes responsibility for drive-in operations in the absence of other management.
  • Duties will include management functions such as purchasing, budgeting, accounting, training, personnel work, and supervisory duties.
  • Enforce safety, health, and security rules.
  • Assists management in operating the drive-in in a manner that provides consistent day-to-day operations and guest satisfaction, in compliance with the Sonic System.
  • Assists management in orientations and training of crew members.
  • Immediate response to guest requests in a respectful manner, report guest complaints to immediate supervisor and assists in resolving such complaints.








Pay and benefits for Assistant Managers




  • Between $24,000 to $32,000 annually but paid on an hourly basis.
    • 40-55 hour workweeks based on need and performance.
  • Some high quality and seasoned “Assistant" Managers are guaranteed overtime as part of their original sign-on deal or earned with tenure.
  • There are many opportunities for bonus and incentive awards as an Associate or Assistant Manager.  Great work equals great performance which will earn you more money.

Austin Sonics owns and operates 65 Sonic Drive-ins in the Austin and surrounding markets.  The company has been in business for over 30 years and is the 4th largest franchise organization in the Sonic system nationwide.  A large number of the current General Managers and Supervisors have been with the company for many years


  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Advanced studies in business, restaurant management, or related fields are preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of restaurant management experience (QSR preferred), experience running shifts without supervision
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and laws relating to employment and labor practices, Equal Employment Opportunity and wage and hour compliance
  • Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing and selection practices
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local health and sanitation laws and regulations
  • Leadership and supervisory practices and skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic accounting skills
  • Time management skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Problem solving, decision-making and conflict-resolution skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work at least 50 hours per workweek.
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Ability to work irregular hours, nights, weekends and holidays

  • Ability to use restaurant planning tools
  • Works with autonomy
  • Complies with all Sonic Drive-In Policies and Procedures, and all health and sanitation laws and regulations
  • Successfully completes and follows requirements of all STAR certification and other Sonic Drive-in training programs
  • Continuous standing, bending, stooping, lifting, stretching and frequent over-head lifting will be required when staging, preparing or packaging menu items and/or cleaning

ENVIRONMENT: Frequent exposure to heat and hot liquid shortening while cooking. Frequent exposure to freezer when stocking food items. Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures based on variable weather conditions.


Job Specifications




  • No felonies (we will do a background check to confirm).
  • At least two 1 year experience in the fast food industry.
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Living in the Austin, Texas Market.
  • Own and operate a motor vehicle with a current driver’s license.
  • No facial hair.
