Job Description


The Preclinical Development group at Wave Life Sciences is looking for an experienced, highly motivated MS/PhD level scientist to join the Investigative Toxicology group in Lexington, MA. The candidate will work closely internally with Toxicology, In Vivo Pharmacology, Chemistry, Biology teams and the external CROs to lead investigative toxicology efforts to understand class-related and compound-specific toxicities. The candidate will provide scientific leadership and technical support to the conduct of in vitro and in vivo toxicology studies and support operational activities within Preclinical Development. The individual will have strong critical thinking skills and a demonstrated track record for problem solving.


* Design and execute screening/predictive toxicology experimental efforts (in vitro cell culture based, ex vivo screening assays or animal models of disease) to generate safety-related data and use it to drive decisions

* Develop early safety assessment evaluations and hypotheses about mechanisms of toxicity, ensure appropriate toxicology studies and liability screens are performed to support nomination of drug candidates for further development

* Plan and conduct investigative toxicology studies, based on off & on-target safety profiles of the candidate drugs to help with candidate drug selection and to understand class-related and compound-specific toxicities

* Participate in issue management teams, providing the scientific leadership for toxicology issue resolution in drug discovery and development

* Generate innovative experimental designs for mechanistic toxicology studies intended to assess hypotheses for and evaluate mechanisms of toxicity

* Work with Data Sciences colleagues to use bioinformatic tools to assess sequence-related off-target risks and develop the appropriate risk-mitigation strategies

* Communicate results clearly and concisely in both oral and written reports

Education / Experience:

* MS/PhD in a relevant scientific field required

* Minimum 3 years for PhD candidates or 5-10 years of relevant experience for MS level candidates preferably in pharmaceutical/biotech industry

* In-depth experience with state of the art cell/molecular biology techniques

* Experience with oligonucleotide research highly desirable.

* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with frequent course corrections

* Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
