Job DescriptionThe Senior Director of Team Member Relations (TMR) will oversee and evolve the process for field investigations across all regions of Whole Foods Market and drive TMR program initiatives. This role will align consistent procedures, protocol, escalations, resolutions and tracking to conduct quality investigations of people issues across the company. This role will also play a key role in future organizational design efforts throughout the Company. This position will report to the Vice President of Team Member Services for the Field and Culture team and will work closely with various stakeholders, including Team Member Services and legal across the company. The Executive Team Leader of TMR will be a part of the company's headquarters in Austin, Texas and supported by a team of 5 Field Investigators. Our RTO model is 50% hybrid so you'll need to work out of our Austin office around 50% of the time.

This leader will be responsible for delivering results in all areas of Team Member Relations, including but not limited to providing a safe and respectful work environment for team members to flourish, building trust-based relationships, transparent and candid communication with open door and inclusive people practices, leading in an empowered environment with direct Team Member and Team Leader relationships.

+ Will lead protocol for investigations delivering fair, timely resolutions, consistent with local requirements. Develop appropriate investigation documentation standards and tracking.

+ Will conduct escalated or complex investigations balancing stakeholders to provide resolution within company guidelines working closely with TMS and legal partners.

+ Partner with internal stakeholders to complete vulnerability assessment programs, analyze multiple levels of Team Member feedback and other data trends and work with relevant stakeholders to train and iterate procedures and practices for leadership based on data and trends.

+ Interpret policies and procedures and advise on fair and equitable employment practices.

+ Deploy escalation protocol and Investigate high level Team Member concerns working closely with stakeholders including Region Leadership, Legal and Asset Protection

+ Partner with Regional and TMS leadership to create and sustain positive Team Member Relations programs, best practices, communication, rapid response and training tailored to business need. Monitor and deploy current industry trends.

+ Analyze, diagnose, design, and revise Team Member programs, policies, and practices to sustain positive Team Member relations across multiple regions.

+ Provide support to end-to-end response efforts as necessary to reactively solve critical employee relations issues for sites, with focus on high-risk locations.

+ Assist with other WFM TMR program initiatives.


+ Minimum 10 years of experience as a senior HR leader including previous experience working with employment law principles and conducting and advising on investigations including leading a team doing the same.

+ Bachelor’s Degree, Certification in Human resources-related field or equivalent industry expertise gained from time on the job preferred, multi-unit retail experience a plus, JD degree in employment law a plus

+ Ability to be an effective change agent and influence change in a decentralized working environment

+ Strong knowledge of employment law, employee relations, investigations and various state and local laws

+ Excellent judgment, problem-solving aptitude, flexibility, creativity, and diplomacy. Ability to be viewed as approachable and objective with understanding and sensitivity to confidentiality. Ability to listen, and persuasively convey opinions and recommendations.

+ Ability to thrive in the face of ambiguity

+ Demonstrated ability to lead a high performing professional team and engage effectively with indirect and remote reports and peers. Experience developing a culture of coaching and mentoring.

+ Experience implementing enterprise programs, systems and practices in a decentralized environment

+ Project Management experience.

+ Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior leadership

+ Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact strategic and tactical initiatives

+ Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced, changing environment and anticipate future needs

+ Appreciation of the culture, core values, leadership principles, and higher purpose of Whole Foods Market

+ Willingness to travel domestically up to 25%
