Senior Research Statistician (NHTSA-18-1429-F)

Bowhead has an immediate opening for a Senior Research Statistician to join our team in Washington DC. The Senior Research Statistician will work closely with NHTSA staff and CISS support personnel to understand the research questions of the new on-scene study and the sample design, data collection protocol and limitations of NHTSA's previous crash causation studiesthe Large Truck Crash Causation Study and the National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study (NMVCCS).

The Senior Research Statistician will work closely with the study team (NHTSA Staff and CISS Support personnel) to understand the data collection conditions in each of the tentative sites. This includes but is not limited to:

* All possible crash notification means for on-scene investigation for each site.

* Feasibility of using each notification method, their coverage, limitation, and effects to the target population.

* If sub-sampling within a site is necessary, collect information for sub-sampling: the frames, the possible measure of size, etc. to ensure the sub-sampling is feasible. To ensure proper crash weighting, the survey researcher will also determine whether the target population crash counts are available from the notification sources, the PJ's PAR collection, etc.

Travel will be required to include up to 25 sites within the United States.

About this Contract Engineering, Statistical, and Technical Support Services (ESTS): The scope of work includes providing support to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Bowhead delivers to DOT NHTSA critical safety data and analysis for distribution to the public. Other areas of support include: Vehicle Crash Evaluation and Engineering Research Support, Web Page Design and Development, and Database Analytics and Database Research Support.

Requirements A BA/S in Statistics is required in addition to at least two years of experience in a professional role

* Must possess solid knowledge of survey design and good communication skills to undertake sampling feasibility studies

* Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint

* Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts

* Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust (NAC) level. The applicant must be living/working in the U.S. for a minimum of three years or be a US Citizen to qualify for a Public Trust clearance.

If the position requires, an applicant must pass a pre-employment criminal background history check. Where driving may be required or where a rental car must be obtained for business travel purposes, applicants must have a valid driver license for this position and will be subject to verification. In addition, the applicant must pass an in-house, online, driving course to be authorized to drive for company purposes.
