+ - 8+ years experience in electrical server hardware design
+ - Proficient in Cadence Concept and Allegro PCB development tools.
+ - 5+ years experience in integrated ARM-based products and architectures.
+ - 6+ experience in PCB layout and layout reviews
+ - 5+ years experience with Verilog or VHDL development environments for CPLD and FPGA programming.
+ - 6+ years experience with high-efficiency DC-DC VR circuit design and solutions.
+ - Design experience in digital logic, simulation, power conversion, and power delivery.
+ - Experience with high-speed serial interfaces including signal integrity design and measurement fundamentals and optimization at the PCA level as well as among system interconnects (board to board connectors, custom high-speed cable designs)
+ - Board bring-up skills including proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, Protocol analyzers, and electronic loads
+ - Experience driving in-house PCA development through prototype board manufacturing builds.
+ Experience leading multi-discipline teams in the debug and root cause of sophisticated technical issues at all levels of the system
+ Experience working with software teams during bring-up and development including low-level kernel debugging tools
+ Experience and knowledge in SAS / SATA / NVMe protocols and analyzers for debug purposes
+ Experience with PCIe Gen 3, PCIe Gen 4, and SAS bus layout for PCB/A design
+ Extensive understanding of PCB layout rules/constraints/guidelines for high-speed interfaces
+ Sophisticated skill in high speed signal design and optimization
+ Experience with high speed signal integrity verification
+ Experience with Power Integrity simulation analysis
+ Experience as a technical lead responsible for all aspects of the design and manufacturing of a high speed PCB/A
+ Experience defining PCB board stackups based on high-speed and power plane requirements.
+ Experience writing and reviewing hardware requirements documents
+ Experience writing and reviewing PCB/A Specifications
+ Experience with Processors, Memory, and High-speed I/O Voltage Regulator Design
+ Experience with server hardware bring up, debug and troubleshooting
+ 5+ years experience in server BMC architectures, standards, and logic designs
+ Experience with hyper-scale/scale-out server designs and associated cost savings, feature optimizations
+ Experience designing high drive count storage sub-systems is a must
+ Familiarity and experience with Open Hardware designs such as Open Compute and Open 19” are a plus
This ambitious and exciting role combines two critical aspects of Hardware Electrical Architecture. First,, this role will be the primary owner responsible for the definition and architecture of hardware solutions for the IS Advanced Technologies Group. Second, this role will require working with internal multi-functional software, hardware, and silicon teams to bring-up, characterize board designs, power delivery, and validate new digital high-speed interfaces and protocols in POC boards. Partnership and communication are absolutely foundational requirements for ensuring success in this role. Key influencer within Apple’s Internet Services and IT teams for the Hardware Roadmap Maintains familiarity with industry technology and trends, assessing areas that could be intercepted into future designs. Responsible for defining power, manageability, and control interfaces within the IS platforms to ensure leverage and consistency among vendors. Also responsible for system level interface connection definition to any rack level or data center management control plane. Works closely with the Apple DCE power team to ensure future datacenter power topologies are understood and clear paths of adoption are in place for approved designs. Responsible for defining key firmware components required for IS Advanced Technologies Group’s PCAs. i.e. Hardware CPLD code controlling GPIO mapping, power, reset and clock sequencing. Works closely with System Design internal teams to review layout/schematics to ensure industry standard methodologies are followed. Responsible for the Hardware Engineering Lab, defining equipment and capabilities Works closely with the Engineering Hardware Tech to test, evaluate hardware platforms. Electrical HW point of contact during issue debug and root cause analysis. Works with system vendors and industry technology providers as vital. Leads sophisticated hardware debug activities in the IS Advanced Technologies Hardware lab. Engages with IS HW Engineering team to ensure future systems provide the right mix of management capabilities, performance tuning, and debug-ability Involved in trade-off decisions involving efficiency, cost, manufacturability, signal integrity, etc. Makes recommendation to executive team. Collaborate with key technology suppliers to know detail roadmaps, capabilities, benefits, etc. Integrates Industry standard methodologies into IS Advanced Technologies Group designs.
**Education & Experience**
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering - Masters Degree in Engineering Field is a plus - MBA is a “nice to have”
+ - Ability to thrive in a ‘start-up’ environment
+ - Scripting experience is a plus (i.e. bash, python)
+ - Confirmed Mentor and Coach in bringing up the next generation of HW designers
