General Summary:

The Shift Manager will provide leadership and direction to the plant in all areas of responsibility including production, processing, packaging and safety. The Shift Manager is accountable for production quality; responsibilities also include long and short-range manufacturing planning. The successful candidate will coordinate and direct activities so that approved products are manufactured on-schedule and within the desired quality and cost standards and will hold responsibility for executing daily/weekly production schedule for optimal efficiencies.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Perform as a first-level leader in a complex food manufacturing facility, providing coaching, support, and direction to members of a work team

* Provide business and technical leadership necessary to ensure both the department and facility meet and/or exceed goals in critical manufacturing success areas (Cost/Quality, Sanitation, System Utilization, Customer Service, and Health/Safety/Environment)

* Leverage knowledge of Continuous Improvement tools to coach employees to solve problems and eliminate defects

* Conduct regular team meetings which include effective communication of organizational and policy changes

* Provide performance feedback and coaching to team members via appraisals and/or other documentation

* Track departmental budget and as applicable take appropriate actions to ensure that departmental budget goals are achieved

* Work and/or attend meetings during other shifts (including off-shifts and/or weekends) as necessary

* Demonstrates high level of problem solving for manufacturing issues, employee issues, capital improvements, and overall business improvements. Mentors floor supervisors towards excellent managerial skills and development. Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors

* Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment

* Staff, train, evaluate and develop team members

* Manage line efficiencies, key performance indicators and down time

* Ensures equipment in the area assigned is in working order and that working conditions are safe at all times

* Verify the readiness of the production line at start-up and supervise change overs

* Other duties as assigned

Job Complexity:

* Have excellent written and oral communication skills

* Able to multi-task

* Basic Knowledge of interview techniques

* Have the ability to give full attention to what other people are saying and taking the time to understand the points being made.

* Ability to communicate and ask questions as appropriate

Minimum Requirements:

* Minimum high school diploma or GED

* Leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment (3+ years preferred)

* 3 years minimum experience as Food Production Supervisor-Someone with a management style of being involved, helping employees, and always be engaging

* 3+ years proven success directing and guiding operators and their activities for assigned shift in a food manufacturing environment

* Requires experience managing people/budgets

* Valid California Driver's license

Preferred Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Business, Food Science, Agriculture, Nutritional Science, Management, Engineering or related disciplines

* 5 + years of managerial experience in a food manufacturing environment

* 5 + years experience preferred in providing leadership to a diverse workforce

* Ability to provide leadership by strong decision making skills and the integrity involved with those decisions

* Ability to provide leadership by organizing, participating and facilitating groups for completion of goals

* Experience of managing indirect reports (direct and indirect labor)

* Bilingual (English and Spanish)

* Microsoft Office Knowledge (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Working Conditions:

* 3rd shift, Monday through Sunday, with rotating days off. When business requires overtime and weekends this will be mandatory

* Prolonged standing and walking

* Work in temperature of 38 degrees for prolonged periods of time
