Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Simulation Center (SIM Center) Director of Operations and indirectly to the Medical Director of the Simulation Center, the SIM Center Simulation Manager provides supervisory management of SIM Center simulation programs. The SIM Center Simulation Manager facilitates new simulation programs, monitors existing simulation programs, creates new simulation program budgets, monitors existing program budgets.


+ Creates and provides simulation program budgets to the SIM Center Operations Director and program Faculty.

+ Creates and distributes daily work schedules and assignments to SIM Center Simulation Technicians, Simulation Assistants and Simulation VHO Technicians.

+ Manages the purchase of supplies used in the SIM Center, create par levels for supply inventory, provide cost analysis to the SIM Center Operations Director including yearly vendor pricing comparisons.

+ Collaborates with the SIM Center Operations Director and Medical School Finance Manager on Purchase Orders submitted through Columbia’s ARC finance system. Manages and approves SIM Center purchases used in daily operations in the absence of the SIM Center Operations Director. Reports all purchases to the SIM Center Operations Director.

+ Manage the training for SIM Center Simulation Technicians, Simulation Assistants, Simulation VHO Technicians to ensure they can setup, operate, provide technical support and equipment troubleshooting for faculty, staff, students / learners, and presenters using SIM Center audio/video equipment (e.g., displays/monitors, controls panels, projectors, computers, associated wiring, related devices/peripherals, and so forth).

+ Manage the training of SIM Center Simulation Technicians, Simulation Assistants, Simulation VHO Technicians, on the care of SIM Center simulation equipment. This includes the proper cleaning, storage, setup and use of all SIM Center simulation equipment.

+ Manage maintenance contracts for all SIM Center simulation equipment. Ensures compliance with manufacturer use and warranties.

+ Identify and communicate to the Sim Center Operations Director the need for replacement equipment. Obtain multiple quotes for new simulation equipment and facilitate new purchases with the SIM Center Operations Director.

+ Interface with vendors regarding troubleshooting and equipment system problems.

+ Train faculty, facilitators, in the different simulation technologies and the operational aspects of simulation as well as the operation of AV equipment and technologies used in SIM Center trainings as requested.

+ Establish and maintains vital records and statistics as they pertain to simulation, including a detailed record of all education and training conducted by the SIM Center, hierarchal storage of all digitally recorded simulations, and record of repair and maintenance of simulators.

+ Support collaborative research and certification projects for the SIM Center as requested, including assisting faculty with abstracts, educational presentations, poster printing, conference workshops, and manuscripts for publication.

+ Perform other job duties as assigned.

+ Work at night and/or on weekends, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 4 years of related experience. Strong communications and interpersonal skills.

+ Ability to work evening and/or on weekends, as required.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Five years’ experience in healthcare simulation and\or medical education.

+ An additional two to three years’ experience in medical simulation, high fidelity simulation, and program development.

Other Requirements

+ Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) to support interactions with learners and other stakeholders as well as SIM Center Management and Staff.

+ Knowledge of selection, implementation, use, and maintenance of simulation and related monitoring equipment.

+ Collaborative approach to working with stakeholders, including learners, senior leadership, faculty, staff, and students.

+ Knowledge of the operation of personal computers is essential, particularly e-mail and Windows Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).

+ Knowledge of simulation audio visual equipment.

+ Knowledge of medical terminology.

+ **Physical Demand Level within safety protocols: Heavy -** In an 8-hour workday, must be able to lift /carry:

+ 50 to 100 pounds occasionally

+ 25 to 50 pounds frequently

+ 10 to 20 pounds regularly
