Special Hazards Service Technician

Summary: Primarily responsible for inspection, installation, and repair of Fire Alarm & Suppression Systems, with additional emphasis on inspection and repair of Sprinkler Systems. Generally, as a secondary function, this position may require installation and service of Security Systems including CCTV, Access Control, and Alarm Panels.

Primary Functions:

Fire Alarm & Suppression Systems Inspection, Installation, & Service: 40%

* Install and program low voltage electrical devices / alarm panels

* Survey and prepare customer site for testing of alarm system

* Perform testing of fire alarm systems panels, noting deficiencies and trouble signs/signals

* Function test smoke detectors, duct detectors, pull stations, audible/visual devices, batteries, etc.

* Perform complete site survey and visual inspection of all system devices

* Correct trouble signals in alarm panels, and perform repairs when needed

* Read wiring diagrams and systems blue prints to assure proper and safe installation

* Run and install wires per manufacturer specifications and code

* Perform on-site troubleshooting when necessary to complete the job

* Complete necessary paperwork in an accurate and legible manner

* Monitor, test, inspect, service and replace fire suppression system tanks

* Provide customer with basic panel/system operation training

* Ensure that the alarm system is communicating with monitoring station and working properly

* Complete inspection reports and turn into branch management.

* Discuss deficiencies noted with customer, explaining the problem and its resolution

Sprinkler Systems Inspection, Installation, & Service: 40%

* Survey and prepare customer site for testing of sprinkler system notifying alarm company & fire department

* Perform visual inspection of sprinkler and fire suppression systems checking piping, couplings & sprinkler heads

* Perform inspection of both Wet, and Dry systems

* Perform testing of control, relief, backflow, alarm and shutoff valve functions, repairing and replacing as needed

* Perform water flow testing

* Run main drain tests on all risers

* Perform testing of Fire Pumps, recording deficiencies and repairing as needed.

* Exercise, turn, and lubricate sprinkler system valves

* Test RP, DC, & RVB Backflow system functions and note deficiencies

* Prepare sprinkler pipe, using threader when needed, and stock truck with inventory required to perform the job

* Perform inspection and repair of sprinkler backflow systems

* Verify proper communication with monitoring station when working on a monitored system

* Perform system tests to verify alarm & sprinkler systems are working properly, recording pressure levels and deficiencies.

* Complete inspection reports and turn into branch management.

* Discuss deficiencies noted with customer, explaining the problem and its resolution

Security, Access Control, & CCTV Systems Installation: 10%

* Work with customers to identify necessary and desired system components

* Manage system inventory and materials

* Run and install system wires reading wiring diagrams and systems blue prints to assure proper installation

* Up-sell products to meet customer needs/wants

* Mount low voltage electrical devices & panels

* Complete necessary paperwork in an accurate and legible manner

* Perform some self-training to complete quality installations

* Provide customer with system operation training

Miscellaneous & General Duties: 10%/Always

* Perform basic vehicle maintenance, and keep work truck clean and organized

* Manage inventory and tools for each job to assure proper parts and tools are on hand

* Manage the installation jobsite in an efficient and safe manner keeping it clean, organized, & professional

* May require performance of On Call duties as required including responding and resolving weekend trouble calls.

* Follow All Koorsen Policies & Procedures

* Be on time, ready to work when scheduled, & complete all duties assigned my management in a timely manner

* Maintain current knowledge of NFPA code as applicable to the position, attending company training sessions

Knowledge, Education, Licensing, and Experience Requirements:

Required:

* High School Diploma or equivalent is required

* Vocational and/or Technical School: Electrical Systems Technology diploma/degree + 1 year experience OR

* 1-3 years field experience in Low Voltage Electrical systems and Sprinkler systems service is required

* Must have or be able & willing to attain state Fire Alarm and/or Sprinkler License when required

* Active Driver License, in good standing required & must meet Koorsen safe driving policy criteria

Preferred:

* Prior Fire Alarm panel program experience is highly preferred

* Prior lift training and/or experience is highly preferred

* Knowledge of construction site and workplace safety practices is highly preferred
