Payroll Specialist Global HQ, Hoboken, NJ

The Role:

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for executing routine payroll processing for Wiley's U.S. employees' payroll, payroll taxes and benefit deductions. Primary responsibilities will be working with employee data from Human Resources' SAP Success Factors HR management system, Payroll's ADP, WorkforceNow, and Wiley's timekeeping system, PunchTime ensuring the weekly changes are processed accurately and completely for the processing of semimonthly U.S. payroll for approximately 2,400 employees. While processing routine payroll cycles the Payroll Specialist should be able to identify areas of improvement and automation of the end to end process by leveraging automation resulting in standardization and efficiencies. The Payroll Specialist will assist the Payroll Supervisor with monthly reporting, preparation of journal entries and month-end reconciliations to record U.S. payroll and related expenses to the General Ledger in the SAP system.

Requirements:

* BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business

* Minimum of eight years of Domestic U.S. payroll processing multi-state experience

* Advanced knowledge of ADP WorkforceNow

* Advanced skills in MS Excel (v-lookups, macros, etc.)

* Ability to manage multiple priorities

* Strong accounting and math skills

* Keen understanding of payroll, payroll taxes and benefit transactions, including 401K

* Understanding of U.S. labor and payroll law, tax and compliance, federal and state regulations, and filing and compliance requirements

* Experience working cross-functionally with Human Resources and IT/HRIS teams on enhancements,

* implementations, and conversions

* Ability to communicate and interact with 3rd party providers about Wiley HR and Payroll data

* Understanding of earnings calculations, payroll deduction codes (pre and post-tax), equity transaction tax implications, etc.

* Understanding of benefit policies such as sick time, paid time off, disability and other types of leave and the impact to payroll processing

* Ability to analyze payroll and employee data, identifying variances and perform routine audits of the payroll data prior to final payroll processing

* Assisting with application set-up to process federal, state and local agency requirements in the ADP payroll system

* Preparation of semimonthly payroll funding requirements for payroll, payroll taxes and 401K

* Support the state agency reporting requests during routine reviews and annual audits

* Understanding of internal controls including Sarbanes Oxley compliance

* Ability to identify system changes and process improvements of the end-to-end processes to streamline manual work arounds and increase efficiencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent oral and written communication
