Job Description

Job summary

Are you passionate about DevOps and leading high-functioning team of Systems Development Engineers? The Pyxis team builds and provides operational support for internal tools used by developers across AWS. Our systems development engineers work in a fast-paced environment across many disciplines, collaborating with other AWS teams to deliver cutting-edge services for our customers. Pyxis team members own the scaling and management of services across all AWS regions, including regions supporting the US Government.

You will manage a team of engineers responsible for delivering projects on time that exceed customer expectations. You love to work with internal and external customers to execute projects and resolve issues. You are passionate about both DevOps and developing and growing your engineers into a strong, cohesive team. You also don’t shy away from a challenge, and prefer to improve how things are done rather than settling for the status quo.

The ideal candidate is:

+ A good people manager. Building, motivating and mentoring a world-class DevOps engineering team is the most important part of this role. You should have a proven track record in recruiting and retaining top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks.

+ Is technically and operationally deep. You will regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify root cause of complex issues. The ideal candidate has experience as a software or systems engineer.

+ Has strong project management experience. The successful candidate will create roadmaps for the team. You will need excellent technical project management skills to deliver roadmap items as well as other cross-team projects. Experience with Agile methodologies is an advantage.

Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and we host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.

We are dedicated to supporting our new team members. Our team has a broad mix of experience levels and Amazon tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship.

Our team also puts a high value on work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here, which is why we aren’t focused on how many hours you spend at work or online. Instead, we’re happy to offer a flexible schedule so you can have a more productive and well-balanced life—both in and outside of work.

In compliance with the U.S. government requirement that employees of its contractors, and employees who work on or in connection with U.S government contracts must receive the COVID-19 vaccine, this position may require that the candidate selected be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. A person is considered fully vaccinated by completing the full regimen of the COVID-19 vaccine (two doses for Pfizer or Moderna and one dose for Johnson & Johnson).

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance and satisfy other security related requirements.
